    St. Ignatius
    St. Ignatius' real name is Inigo de Loyola, and he was born in 1491, the year before Columbus sailed the ocean blue. He is the founder of the Jesuits. On September 27, 1540, He became a Jesuit (The day the Jesuits were founded). He was unanimously (with the exception of his own vote) elected to be the first Superior General, or leader, of the Society of Jesus.

    Christopher Columbus discovers America
    In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue. His Voyage used only three ships, the Nina, Pinta, and the Santa Maria. The goal of the voyage was to reach Asia, not America. Christopher Columbus discovered a "New World".

    St. Xavier was born on April 7, 1506, and he died on December 3, 1552. He was one of the first seven Jesuits along with St. Ignatius, and he was a great missionary. Many Jesuit schools are named after him.

    St. Peter Claver
    St. Peter claver was born on June 26, 1580, and he died on September 8, 1654. He became a Jesuit on August 8, 1604. He is the patron saint of slaves, because he worked with and carred for the slaves who were taken to the new world. Through his work, more than 300 thousand souls were saved.

    Fr. Lorenzo Ricci was born on August 1, 1703, and died on November 24, 1775. He was the 18th Superior General of the Society of Jesus, and the last Superior General before the suppresion of the Jesuits. He was arested, put in Jail, and ill treated by others durring the suppresion.

    Sir Isaac Newton revolutionized science, especially with respect toward universal gravitation and the laws of motion. Newton was born on December 25, 1642. Some of his works are still used today to explain what goes on in the universe.

    Fr. John Carroll was born on January 8, 1735, and he died on December 3, 1815. He becamea Jesuit in 1753, and lived through the suppression the Society of Jesus, Which occured from 1773 to 1814. He became the first bishop of the United States on November 6, 1789. He founded Georgetown University.

  • Fr. Pedro Arrupe

    Fr. Pedro Arrupe
    Fr. pedro Arrupe was born on November 14, 1907, and he died on February 5, 1991. Pedro Arrupe joined the Jesuits in 1927, and became the Superior General of the Society of Jesus from 1965 to 1983. Our Arrupe Program is named after him, and our motto, "Men for Others" comes from a speach of his to the Tenth International Congress of Jesuit Alumni of Europe.

    Fr. Adolfo Nicolas was born on April 29, 1936. He became a Jesuit in 1953. On January 19, 2008 he became the thirtieth, and current, Superior General of the Society of Jesus.
