Grant led the Union in driving the confederation towards the Appomattox River. The Confederates had no place to go and Robert E. Lee of the surrendered to Ulysses S. A few days later the leader of the Union and the president, Abraham Lincoln, is assassinated at the Fords Theater in Washington by John Wilkes Booth on April 14. The war officially ends on the 26 of April when William T. Sherman received a surrender from Johnston. -
Henry got his first job in Detroit
At 16, it Detroit, he was an apprentice in a machine shop. He worked with car parts. He only got paid $2.50 a week. He also worked at a jeweler in the evenings he also got paid $2.50. This gave him more experience working with car parts and learned how to assemble complex machines. (Untermeyer) -
He built his first tractor
At 19 years old his dad wanted a new tractor for his farm. He started gathering different parts to build his own tractor. Using his knowledge from working for multiple mechanic shops he was able to assemble his own tractor. It took him a few months but he figured it out. This is where he got the idea to make his own cars.
