-
Taught at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama at an all black school. He taught students about plants and farming.
-
While at Tuskegge Institute GWC worked to come up with an incentive to get Sourtherns to plant crops other than Cotton. Planting the same thing over and over was not good for the soil and in turn produced a crop that was no good.
-
GWC wanted Southers to try planting other crops. He knew he needed to find a use for sweet potatoes and peanuts. He came up with ink, cheese and soap that could be made from peanuts and molasses, rubber and glue from sweet potatoes.
