  • Birth

    He was born in India, when India was part of the British Empire and his parents were servants of the British and feminism gained more power.
  • Eton

    Eric Arthur Blair(George’s real name) joined Eton, and finished his old school, St.Cyprian’s.
  • 1918

    It was the end of the First World War, while the Spanish Flu was a Pandemic.
  • George joins the police force

    He joined the Indian Imperial Police and experienced dehumanising, and Gandhi was arrested because he was preaching non-violent resistance against the British Empire.
  • French life

    He earned his meals by working as a dishwasher, and experienced poverty. The Great Depression was starting to hit the Western World.
  • His first published book

    He published his first book ‘Down and out in Paris and London’ based on his experiences.
  • Spanish Civil War

    The Civil War in Spain had begun and there were two parts fighting, the Republicans, who were aided by the Soviet Union, and the Nationalists aided by the facist Italy and Nazi
    Germany and Orwell fought in it, for ‘common decency’
  • Orwell and the BBC

    Orwell was working for the BBC ‘Empire Talks Assistant’ and then left to join the magazine Tribute.
  • Belfast Blitz Bombardment

    Belfast was attacked by bombers that sent to the Ireland leader Éamon De Valera.Orwell and his wife were nearly killed.
  • Animal Farm

    Orwell’s book ‘Animal farm’ was published and it was based on the Russian Revolution, the betrayal of Josef Stalin.
  • ‘1984’

    Orwell wrote his biggest novel,
    1984.
    This book warned the population of the regime of totalitarianism. It was published in 1949.
  • Death

    George Orwell died of tuberculosis, which is caused by bacteria which affects the lungs.
