Garrett Morgan Early Life
Garrett Morgan was born on March 4th, 1877 Paris, Kentucky. At age 15 Garrett Morgan quit school and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio to work as a handyman for a wealthy landowner.Later he moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he met his first wife Madge Nelson. Sadly their marrige ended in a divorcein 1896. About 11 years later he opened his own repair shop. -
Garrett Morgan Middle Life
In 1908 Garrett Morgan Married Mary Anne Hassek. He also invented a gel for needles so they didn't scorch the fabric. He later discovered that the gel also worked with hair. Garrett Morgan made a company selling his hair gel. In Garett Morgans middle life he algo hade a safty helmit. It helped by using a sponge to filter the air and to cool the air. Because he was African American people wouldn't buy his products, so as a solution he hired a tutor or called himself "Big Chef Mason'. -
Garrett Morgan Later Life
Garrett Morgan invented the traffic light. The first one he made was hand cranked. Its success was due to two safety features:
1. Having a stop signal.
2. Indicating caution when the operator wasn't there.
Garrett Morgan's last invention was a self putting out cigarette.In poor health and nearly blind Garrett Morgan passed away on August 27, 1963 at age 86.
