Born on October 2 1869 in the town of Porbander which is now Gujarat. -
Marriage
At thirteen he married Kasturba. -
Sets sail
He set sail for England to get a degree in law. -
1891
He was called to the bar and Enrolled to the high court of London, sadly later that year he left for India. -
Big trip
He was spending 20 years in south Africa and on a trip back to India in 1909 he authored a short treatise entitled Hind swaraj or Indian home rule. -
Came home
He came home to stay in 1915 and never left India again except a short trip to Europe in 1931. -
Interventions
His interventions earned him a considerable reputation, and his rapid scendacy to the helm of Nationalist politics is signified by his leadership of the opposition to repressive legislation. -
Arrested
He was arrested on tried charges of sedition and sent to imprisonment for six years. -
Observation
He observed from his prison cell a 21 day fast when Hindu Muslim riots broke out in Kohout, this was one of his major fast"s in public. -
Unhealthy
Due to poor health he was released from prison. -
Nationalist movement
The nationalist movement was revived, March 2 he wrote a letter saying if the Indian demands were not met he would break the salt laws. -
Epic fast
he commenced the epic fast unto death. -
Death
He was shot to death.
