Between 1517 and 1519 Pineda led several expeditions ddown the western coastlines of the Gulf of Mexico, His map is the first known document of Texas history and was the first map of the Gulf Coast region of the United States.

Cortes

Led an expedition that caused the fall of the Aztec Empire and brought large portions of mainland Mexico under the rule of the King of Castile in the early 16th century. Cortés was part of the generation of Spanish colonizers that began the first phase of the Spanish colonization of the Americas.

Cabeza de Vaca

Apr 15, 1528

Discovered tampa Florida and France by searching the east coast and the west coast. Wrecked on or near Galveston Island and was captured by Indians and kept there for several years.

Moscoso

Apr 7, 1538

Traveled with the army of Hernando de Soto to Florida through Cuba. He commanded one of the seven ships of Soto. In Florida they explored the Mississippi River. When de Soto, Moscoso became leader of the army. He explored Louisisana and Texas.

Fray Marcos and Esteban

In 1539, they set out in search of the fabled Seven Cities of Cibola. They came upon the Zuni village of Hawikuh (in present-day New Mexico). Fray reported that Esteban offended the residents and they killed him.

Francisco de Coronado

Jan 1, 1540

Corornado was in search of Cíbola.They could not climb down the Grand Canyon to reach the river. In 1541he set out in search of Quivira.
