Dr. Ricardo Bressani Castignoli,a scientist and researcher, was born in Guatemala City on September 28, 1926. -
University studies
He obtained his Bachelor´s degree in Chemistry in 1948 from the University of Dayton,Ohio.
Master´s degree in 1951 from Iowa State University. -
INCAP
After returning to Guatemala,he started working at the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP).An institution where he worked for 39 years. -
Postgraduate studies
Ricardo Bressani completed his postgraduate studies in the area of biochemistry and also obtained a doctorate between 1952 to 1956. -
Malnutrition
When he had finished his studies,in view of the problem of protein-energy malnutrition among the Guatemalan population, Dr. Bressani began, in the early 1950s, a research program dedicated to developing high-quality vegetable mixtures with proteins for children and adults. -
Ingredients
He have focused on finding practical solutions to some of the nutritional problems that affect the population,mainly using the Guatemala's main crop: corn and its nutritional content. -
INCAPARINA
A vegetable drink composed by maize flour , cottonseed flour, soy bean flour,fortified with Omega-3,vitamin A,vitamin B and calcium.Always trying to keep it low in cost and high in nutritive value. -
Distribution
The INCAP presented the project in Guatemala to the directors of the Hermanos Castillo Corporation,looking for the local distribution of this drink that made a radical change in the nutritional health. -
Products
The INCAPARINA had been a complete success when he started developing food products,such as cookies,that have been used in school feeding programs in Guatemala. -
A real Hero
He served as a Chief of the Food and Agricultural Sciences Division until 1993.He has been distinguished with different recognitions due to his great contributions to society and its improvement. -
