Duddy works for Uncle Benjy
Duddy works for his uncle at the factory. He is later fired because he was causing too much trouble. -
"A man without land is nobody"
Duddy's grandfather tells him that "A man without land is nobody" which is one of the reasons for why Duddy ends up the way he does. -
Meeting Yvette
Duddy meets Yvette at the hotel he works at for the summer. This is important because Duddy and Yvette become lovers. -
Duddy finds his land
Yvette takes Duddy to a beautiful lake which he falls in love with. This is the land he wishes to buy so he can be somebody; according to what his grandfather says. (A man without land is nobody). This event is important because it is the main cause for the things Duddy does later on in the novel. -
Duddy meets the Boy Wonder
Since Duddy was little he has heard about the fantastic Boy Wonder. He goes to Mr. Dingleman (Boy Wonder) to get help with his film company. Instead, Dingleman takes Duddy to NY with him, where Duddy is basically a drug mule. Duddy also meets a man named Virgil, Who sells pinball machines. -
Dudley Kane Enterprises
Duddy and Mr Friar (avant-garde filmmaker) start a film company to produce bar-mitzvah and wedding films. Their first film `Happy Bar-Mitzvah, Bernie!` turns out to be a sucess. -
Yvette leaves Duddy
Yvette leaves Duddy because he is a jerk and a money wog. This is important because all the land Duddy has purshised is in Yvettes name, -
Selling pinballs
Duddy sells all of Virgils pinball machines. But Duddy keeps the money to himself, so he can pay for his future land, office and rent. We also find out that Virgil is epileptic. This is foreshadowing. -
Friar leaves, Duddy starts a new company
Friar abandons his work for Duddy. So Duddy starts a movie distribution company and hires Virgil as a travelling projectionist. -
Virgil has a seizure
A few months after the company starts, Virgil has an epileptic seizure while driving. He crashes the car and is paralized. Yvette takes care of him while Duddy continues being ignorant and careless for everyone around him. -
Uncle Benjy gets sick
Benjy gets sick, Duddy and him have never had a good relationship. But Benjy says he loves Duddy. Duddy never asked him for money while everyone else did. -
Duddy has his nervous break down
Duddy gets something that appears to be depression. His uncle has died. Duddy has a letter from his uncle he refuses to open. Duddy is broke, and feels he will never get all he land he wants. -
Duddy finally opens his letter
Duddy opens the letter from Benjy, only to find out Benjy left Duddy his mansion. It also says that Duddy is not aloud to sell the mansion. -
Dingleman vs Duddy
Duddy has made a plot to get the rest of his land. He asks Dingleman for money to help him purchase his land. Dingleman declines him because he too is planning on buying land, in specific, Duddys dream land. This creates a rush for money. -
Duddys plan
Duddy askes Yvette and Virgil to move into the mansion with him. Duddy has sold everything in the mansion in order to get money, he also gets money from his father and ends up stealing money from Virgil. -
Duddy and the land
Duddy gets the land of his dreams. Although everyone is mad at him because he has used everyone for money, Yvette leaves him, Virgil hates him, his family isn`t proud of him.
