Sarah Jane Smith exchanges stories of traveling with the Doctor in her past with Rose. Rose realizes she's not the only one and the Doctor sees how he has affected the lives of his former companions. It reminds him that "forever" is not for humans. -
Rose gets trapped in a parallel universe
Rose gets sucked into a parallel universe through a rift in time when they save the Earth. The Doctor tries to tell her that he loves her but runs out of time before the vortex closes, seperating them forever. -
The Doctor meets Donna Noble
Donna is a fiesty red-head who is avoiding her marriage. After they save London, together, the Doctor invites her to travel with him. Donna declines his offer and chooses to live a normal life. -
The Doctor meets Martha
Martha is a doctor in training that is fascinated by the Doctor and joins him on his adventures. -
The Doctor meets another Time Lord, The Master
The Doctor finds out that he is not the last of his kind alive (as he previously had thought) and then is sad to find out that the only remaining Time Lord has become evil and must be stopped. -
The Master dies.
The Master dies, leaving the Doctor to truly be the last of his kind. -
The Doctor bumps into Donna Noble
The Doctor bumps into Donna Noble again and they save the world together. This time Donna agrees to travel with him, only as friends as they argue a lot. -
Martha leaves the Doctor
Martha chooses to leave the Doctor as she realizes he will never love her the way he loves Rose. -
The Doctor meets "his daughter"
The Doctor meets his genetically made daughter (a weird machine thingy made her) and is reminded of his own children, family and community who died in a war that he ended. She dies at the end of the episode just when the Doctor begins to warm up to her and see her as truly his own. -
The Doctor saves the universe and regenerates
The Doctor saves the universe with the help of all his former companions. In the process, he has to erase Donna's memory to save her life. Later he gets very injured and has to regenerate again, leaving his past life and friends behind.
