  • Gregor Mendel

    Gregor Mendel
    Gregor Mendel did a lot of experiments with pea plants. He dsicovered that pea plants inherit traits from their parents. He also figured out that some traits are dominant, meaning they show up more often, and some traits are recessive, meaning they won't show up as often.
  • Friedrich Miescher

    Friedrich Miescher
    Mieschner was the first person to discover that there is an acidic substance in a call's nucleus. Before this people thought that there was protein, not acid. This acidic substance turned out to be DNA.
  • Wilhelm Johannsen

    Wilhelm Johannsen
    This Chinese scientist created the terms genotype and phenotype. He also wrote a paper that became "one of the founding texts of genetics", introducing and coining the term gene.
  • Erwin Chargaff

    Erwin Chargaff
    Chargaff researched the structure of DNA and came up with three rules .
    "1. the number of adenine (A) residues always equals the number of thymine (T) residues;
    2. the number of guanine (G) residues always equals the number of cytosine (C) residues;
    3. the number of purines (A+G) always equals the number of pyrimidines (T+C) — this rule is an obvious consequence of rules 1 and 2."
  • Oswald Avery

    Oswald Avery
    Oswald avery was one of the oldest scientists to discover something amazing. He spent five years researching and studying DNA and he proved that genes and chromosomes are made up of DNA.
  • Francis Crick

    Francis Crick
    Crick was working with Watson and they developed the first helical model of DNA. He also worked with X-rays to create the helical diffractin theory, which turned out to be useful in the future of understanding DNA.
  • Hershey-Chase

    Hershey-Chase
    Martha Chase and Alfred Hershey were the dynamic duo of the 1950's. Their insights about DNA convinced scientists everywhere that DNA is actually genetic material. They did an experiment with the phage virus to prove this.
  • Rosalind Franklin

    Rosalind Franklin
    Rosalind Franklin worked with DNA under X-rays. Her work lead to the discovery the double helix of DNA that we all know today. She also found the location of the phosphates around the DNA structure.
  • Alec Jefferys

    Alec Jefferys
    One of the more recent scientists, Jefferys is still alive and kicking today. He discovered new ways to record fingerprinted DNA and DNA profiling. This new technology has helped law enforcment everywhere.
  • Maurice Wilkins

    Maurice Wilkins
    Maurice Wilkins was an Enlish researcher who created the first ever accurate model of DNA.
