dna replication

    step 1️⃣

Before DNA can be replicated, the double stranded molecule must be “unzipped” into two single strands. DNA has four bases called adenine (A), thymine (T), cytosine (C) and guanine (G) that form pairs between the two strands (initiation)

    step 2️⃣

First, a so-called initiator protein unwinds a short stretch of the DNA double helix. Then, a protein known as helicase attaches to and breaks apart the hydrogen bonds between the bases on the DNA strands, thereby pulling apart the two strands. (elongation)

    step 3️⃣

A DNA strand is composed of a long backbone of sugar and phosphate units . One of our different nucleotide bases A, T, C or G hang off each sugar unit. The sequence of the bases encodes genetic information. (termination)
