The concept of individual inherited 'particles' was introduced
Gregor Mendel (1822-1884) introduced the concept of individual inherited 'Particles'. This 'particles' is called Genes! -
Basic structure of DNA was introduced
The basic structure of DNA was introduced and it was found that it had four variations in the bases -
Destroy different types of molecules
Oswald Avery, Colin Macleod and Maclyn McCarty destroyed different types of molecules to see if this affected the inherited change in bacteria. (This was in the late 1940s and early 1950s) -
Analysing the DNA
Erwin Chargaff analysed the DNA, and found that the proportion of cytosine and guanine were the same and the proportion of adenine and thymine was the same too! This is what Erwin Chargaff discovered. -
Deducing the structure
James Watson and Francis Crick manipulated Wilkins into giving them the details of the experiment of the DNA. Wilkins gave them the detailed measurements which Rosalind franklin obtained (without her permission). This is how they build the structure of the double helix. -
X-ray diffraction of DNA
Maurice Wilkins (1916-2004) and Rosalind Franklin (1920-1958) were working on the X-ray diffraction of DNA. There were intense rivalry developed between Wilkins and Franklin.
