Vanderbilt stared to build first with his steamboats and that thought him a lot of things, and that he learned eventually helped him with his trains. -
Extending
In 1830 his Vanderbilt's business had expanded to the Hudson River. Soon he controlled coastal trade along the entire coast of New England. -
Elected
In 1844 Vanderbilt was elected as a director of the Long Island Rail Road -
Train line
Through out the 1860's he made a lot of train routes. Then he found a way to make them connect and he made a line from New York all the way to Chicago. -
Harlem Railroad
Vanderbilt was about 70 when he took over another rail road, Harlem Railroad. -

On his way to making his railroads even bigger he took over another railroad called Hudson River Railroad. -

In 1869 they were connected into New York Central and Hudson River Railroad. By 1873, he had extended the rail roads to Chicago, Illinois. -
Vanderbilt
When he was getting old he gave 1 million to build a collage in his name, Vanderbilt University. -
Cornelius Vanderbilt death
He died at age 82. He did not die because of natul cause he died of being to old
