    Vikings
    -There really is no set date for this timeline since it started before 1000 CE but it did continue over the years
    -Basically vikings would voyage over to the Americas and visit there
    -This information is important beccause of the fact that they were the first Europeans to visit this continent
    -This information was actually proven true in 1961

    John Cabbot

    John Cabbot
    John Cabbot was sailing on his boat in Newfoundland when he and his crew found an abundance of fish which they then reported back to their home nation of Iceland to let them know that this was a good place to live due to all the fish they could catch

    Beothuk

    Beothuk
    -The Beothuk's was the name for people who lived in Newfoundland before Europeans found that land
    -Beothuk's were a hunter-gatherer type of people and followed a yearly schedule to get food
    -It would differ from season to season and place to place but they manage to hunt successfully
  • Apr 20, 1534

    Cartier's first voyage

    Cartier's first voyage
    -Jacques Cartier and his settlers went on a voyage to the new world
    -They came across a first nations village called Kanata
    -Cartier and his settlers insist that it's actually called Canada and they claimed it
    -This is an example of ethnocentrism because Cartier and his settlers thought they were superior to the first nation people and took and renamed their land
  • May 15, 1535

    Cartier's 2nd voyage

    Cartier's 2nd voyage
    -More important than his first voyage
    -110 people on this voyage
    -Traveled upstream the St.Lawrence river
    -Arrived in a village called Stadacona which is now known as Quebec
    -They settled for the winter on St.Charles River
    -Throughout the winter Cartier traveled to Hochelaga which is now known as Montreal
    -He would then return back to Quebec where his relations with the aborignal people had deteriorated but they still helped Cartiers crew survive scurvy
    -Cartier returns to Europe in the spring
  • May 1, 1541

    Cartier's third voyage

    Cartier's third voyage
    -This was Cartier's 3rd and final voyage to Canada
    -This voyage brought close to 800 people to Canada in an attempt to colonize the region
    -Weapons were brought this time and they had settled in a new colony a few kilometres away from Quebec
    -Cartier had decided to sail to Montreal while his men set up places for them to stay
    -When he had returned from Montreal a battle ensued between Cartier's people and the aboriginals who originally live in Quebec
