    The TV age began in the late 1940s in the U.S. The TV age is the first generation of children to grow up with a TV in the house. This event is important to history because people started spending more time inside than outside. It also is important because it allowed people to view firsthand historical events. The TV age impacted economy because businesses started using commercials which brought in 1.5 billion in the early 1950s
  • Cold War

    Cold War
    The Cold War took place from 1945-89 between the U.S and U.S.S.R. A cold war is a state of tension between two countries without fighting. The Cold War was when countries wanted democracy but bigger countries were pulling the smaller ones into communism. the Cold War is important because it helped shape our country today and helped us become free. Cold War impacted politics because it stopped communism and promoted democracy.

    Truman Doctrine/Marshall Plan
    In 1947 President Truman gave Greece and Turkey military aid. Truman gave the countries $400 million dollars worth of military aid. In 1948 George Marshall gave Europe aid to rebuild their cities that had been destroyed in WWII. Marshall gave Europe $12 billion dollars. These events were important because it helped stop the spread of communism. The Truman Doctrine/ Marshall Plan impacted politics because they were helping stop communism from spreading into Western and Southern Europe.

    In 1955 Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus in Alabama. Rosa had a long day & was tired & didn't feel good & when a white passenger told her to move she refused & was arrested. She also was part of the NAACP & won many awards including the Springarn Award. This event was important because it started the bus boycott which didn't allow for African Americans to ride the public buses. Rosa Parks impacted society because it started the bus boycott which introduced nonviolent protesting.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    This event involved the U.S, S.U, and Cuba. In 1962 the S.U. gave Cuba missiles and weapons to bomb the U.S. JFK told the American people after a week of debating. He then told the S.U. that any ships carrying missiles would be confiscated. At the last minute the S.U. turned around. This event was important because it was the closest event to a full-scale nuclear war. This event impacted society because if the S.U. wouldn't have turned back JFK would have declared war.

    Martin Luther King  Assassination
    In 1968 in Memphis, TN MLK was assassinated from a balcony. MLK stepped out of his room at the Lorraine Motel when James Earl Ray shot him from across the street. MLK was shot with a "Remington Game master" rifle it hit him in the right side of his jaw injuring his spinal cord. This event was important because it was said to be the FBI's most expensive & biggest investigation in history. MLK's assassination impacted politics because it it pretty much ended the non-violent civil rights movement.

    Man lands on Moon
    In 1969 at 4:17 p.m. Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins piloted the Apollo 11 onto the moons surface. At 10:56 p.m. Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon. He described the surface as powdered charcoal and said that the landing craft left a crater about a foot deep. In total they spent twenty one hours on the moon. This event was important because we gathered moon samples to study. Also, the landing on the moon impacted society because we were the first to make it to the moon.

    Gerald Ford
    Gerald Ford was a U.S president from 1974-76. Before he was the president he was a Michigan Congressman for 25 yrs. During his presidency he started trade with the S.U. He was an important president because he was part of the Warren Commission. Gerald Ford impacted politics when he pardoned Richard Nixon after he resigned from his spot in presidency. Some fun facts about Gerald Ford are he had two failed assassination attempts on him. Also the only person to be the VP & P without being elected.
  • Ronald Reagan

    Ronald Reagan
    In 1980 President Ronald Reagan was elected president. He was pres. from 1980-88. However, before he was pres. he was Governor of California and a movie star. A fun fact about Ronald was that an actor in over 50 films. He was also a lifeguard on the Rock river in Dixon IL. He was an important pres. because he helped reduce nuclear weapons and he also elected the first woman justice on supreme court. Ronald Reagan impacted politics because he cut taxes. He also spent $100 billion on defense.
  • George H.W. Bush

    George H.W. Bush
    George H.W. Bush was pres. from 188-92. Before he was pres. he was Ronald Reagan's vice President. He was also the director of the CIA and a Navy pilot in WWII. This event was important because while he was pres. he passed the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Berlin Wall fell and there was the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Also, he conducted Operation Desert Storm. George H.W. Bush impacted politics because while he was the Persian Gulf War was going on

    9,11 @ 7:46 a.m CST in New York city an attack took place.An AA flight II crashed into the North Tower.20 min. later UA flight 175 hit the South Tower.This was important because it was the the first time America was under attack since Pearl Harbor.At the same time in VA, AA flight 77 slammed into the Pentagon.U flight 93 went down in a field in PA @ 9:06 am.This plane was intended for the Whitehouse or Capitol.9,11 impacted society because there were about 3,400 deaths & about 2,300 injured.
  • Financial Crisis

    Financial Crisis
    In 2008 the U.S. faced its most dangerous crisis since the Great Depression. It began with mortgage dealers who issued mortgages with borrowers who couldn't pay causing the banks to go into foreclosure. It was important because insurance companies traded for credit swaps making trillions. The financial crisis impacted society because deep recession took over most of the world. Also, the U.S lost nearly two million jobs causing the unemployment rate to shoot up 7.2%.
