    Joe McCarthy

    McCarthy was a first term senator from Wisconsin.McCarthy gave a speech and waved a paper with a list of 205 known members of the Communist Party who were working in the State Department.     Jackie Robinson

    Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier when he became the first black athlete to play Major League Baseball in the 20th century..He played for the Dodgers, who were from New York. He went to school at UCLA, and was the first student to win varsity letters in four sports.     Baby Boom

    Almost nine months after World War 2 ended, “ the cry of the baby was heard across the land.” 3.4 million babies were born in 1946. By the end of Baby Boom, there were 76.4 million baby boomers in the United States. Baby Boom happened because of the desire for normalcy after war. The Baby Boom led to a population growth.     Korean War

    The Korean War was mostly between North and South Korea. A few countries helped out a little on both sides. The two countries had two different governments. The U.S. helped South Korea, because they wanted to help stop the spread of Communism. The two countries fought over land, and their land area changed several times throughout the war.     NATO/Warsaw Pact

    The U.S. and 11 other western nations formed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to prevent communist expansion. The formation of the Warsaw Pact was in response to NATO. The Warsaw Pact was made by the Soviets. They focused on working together to turn away from an enemy attack. The NATO alliance was made for protection against conflict from Germany. This event took place from 1955- 1991. The NATO/Warsaw Pact impacted
    politics because of trust between the different countries in these groups.

    John F Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas on Nov. 22, 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald (and possibly someone else.) He was shot while riding in a convertible, as well as Connally, the governor of Texas. The Zapruder film is the only video taken of the incident. . No one knows what happened.     Martin Luther king was assassinated on April 4, 1968 in Memphis Tennessee. He was a Civil Rights activist who was very well known.     Gerald Ford

    Gerald Ford was Nixon’s Vice President. He stepped in after after Nixon’s resignation. He became president in 1974 until 1977. He was a very likable and friendly guy. He decided to pardon Nixon and his administrating of wrongdoing for the healing nation. Gerald Ford was the first and the only president to never “get elected.” He wasn’t a great president, but he was overall a good guy. He mostly impacted economy. He replaced his first economic program which raised taxes.

    Ronald Reagan

    Ronald Reagan was president from 1981-1989. During his presidency, he cut taxes and increased defense spending. He was president during the Cold War, and tried to speed it up. In 1981, someone attempted to assassinate him, but he survived his injuries and continued to live until he was 93. He also increased employment during his presidency. Because of his economic decisions, the economy was restored in 1983. Ronald Reagan affected economy, because he made tax cuts and several other

    Persian Gulf War

    Iraq’s leader, Saddam Hussein, ordered the invasion on Kuwait. The U.S. decided to help defend against Iraq, and help Kuwait. They wanted to acquire the nation's largest oil reserves trying to get rid of a large debt Iraq owed to Kuwait. Iraq’s air defenses before attacking oil refineries etc... Iraq was later defeated. This event affected politics, because the U.S. government came together with the government of Kuwait to plan how to fight off Iraq. ,

    Hurricane Katrina

    Hurricane Katrina began on August 29, 2005. It struck on the Gulf Coast of the United States. It was a category 5 hurricane, which means it causes a lot of damage. The hurricane led to flooding.     Financial Crisis 2008

    This began in 2007 when mortgage prices and loans became an issue. The casualties included banking industries, the biggest insurance company, the largest savings and loan, etc... Companies suffered heavily, and banks stopped giving out loans. No one could figure out how to fix this massive problem.Things were getting bad.The Reserve Primary Fund helped everyone get out of the crisis.This event effected economy, because several industries and businesses had to close down, and money was an issue.
