    The Beginning
During the American civil rights movement, Mexican Americans saw the need for an organization they would be able to use to unify. From their, La Raza was formed by Herman Gallegos, Dr. Julian Samora, and Dr. Ernesto Galarza in Phoenix, Arizona.
  • Gaining Recognition

    Gaining Recognition
In 1980, UnidosUS (Which at the time was still La Raza) became the nation's largest provider of technical assistance for Latino organizations. This means that they were helping the smaller organizations operations and strengthening them so they could serve better in the community. This event is important for my organization because this is around the time that they started gaining the recognition they deserved.
  • The NCLR Homeownership Network

    The NCLR Homeownership Network
The NCLR Homeownership Network launched in 1997. The NCLR Homeownership Network is a network where UnidosUS provide counseling to Latino famililies and people who dream of owning houses. This event is important to my organization because at the time it was one of the biggest things that they had done to give back so far.
  • Establishing Themselves

    Establishing Themselves
In 2004, the CEO at the time Raul Yzaguirre decided to step down from his position and retire. The NCLR Board then decided to make Janet Murguía the new CEO and President of NCLR. The following year NCLR decided to make a headquarters just four blocks from the White House. This event is important because it symbolisez that they had finally made it as and American INstitution and that the organization was a success.
  • Getting Ready For The Future

    Getting Ready For The Future
NCLR has helped more than 500,00 US Citizens register to vote since the year 2008. In the year 2008 NCLR also fought hard for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. This program Which made it so people who travelled to the US illegally could have a temporary legal status. This is important for my organization because this helped them grow in the future by inspiring children to do what they did.
