The depression started in 1930 and lasted untill the mid 1940's. It was a very hard time for Americans. -
Momma Dies
It was 1932 when Bud found his mom (Angela Jane Caldwell) dead in her room. Bud was only six then. -
Adolf Hiter Chosen as Chancellor
In 1933 Hitler was chosen to be Chancellor of Germany due to his support from citizens that were angry about The Treaty of Versailles. -
Todd Amos
Bud gets beat up by Todd Amos and Bud hits Todd once to defend himself. Then when Mrs. Amos comes in, Todd tells his mom Bud beat him up for no reason. -
Bud Escapes the Amoses shed
Afer the Amos family (the family that got bud out of the home) locks Bud in their shed, Bud eventually escapes and goes on the lam. -
Bud tries to go to Chicago
Bud goes with Bugs to the train station to go to Chicago. Bud did not make the train though. There, he meets Deza Malone (the girl he gets his first kiss from). -
Library
Bud goes to the library and looks at maps for how to get to Grand Rapids to go meet and find out if Herman E. Calloway is his dad. -
Bud meets Lefty lewis
While Bud is wandering around Grand Rapids, he meets Lefty Lewis who helps him and takes care of him until he can bring Bud to Herman E. Calloway. -
Bud meets Herman
Bud finally meets Herman E. Calloway, The leader of the most famous jazz band and who he beleives is his father. -
Grandfather, not dad
Bud finds out that Herman E. Calloway was in fact his grandfather and not his dad. -
Welcome Home Bud
Herman and the band keep Bud in their custody, and Bud will live with them from now on. Bud finally has a place to call home. -
Learns the Saxaphone
Bud learns to play the new saxaphone that Steady Eddie (one of the members of Herman E. Calloways band) gave him. -
World War II
World War II lasted from 1939 to 1945. It was a very sad and hurtful time for a lot of people. -
Britian and France declare War
Britian and France declare war on Germany after Hitler and the Nazis declare war against Poland. -
First atomic bomb
Before the beginning of WWII Albert Einstein wrote to the US President Roosevelt and told him of of efforts in Nazi Germany to purify uranium-235, which could be used to build an atomic bomb. This was not long before the first atomic bomb went off.
