He was born June 17,1914 in China Tianjin China. He spent his first few years in China then packed up and moved to Key West FL. -
Yale University
His undergraduate years were spent at Yale until the year 1936 when he graduated. -
First Job
His first job he worked for Sinclair Lewis as a secretary and Gofer. Which gave him the idea to start wrighting his own books. -
Married
He married Frances Ann Cannon and had three children. Frances and john divorced in 1958. A year later John married Barbra Adams and had once child with her. -
First two books
Johns first two books were published containing information about his experience in the south. "Men of Bataan" and "Into the Valley", 'Men of Bataan" contains fifty different storied and received many goof reviews. -
3rd book
He published "A Bell for Andano" on May 8,1945 it won the Pulitzer Prize -
Hitoshima
One Major event that happened during the time period when Hersey was writing was the bombing of Hiroshima in japan. -
Turning into education
Hersey turned his efforts towards education and racism. He wrote "The Child Buyer", a novel that reflected some educational thinking of that time. -
John Hersey's death
A few years after Hersey published his final book he found out he had cancer just a few months later he passed away.
