Born
Auguste Comte was born January 19, 1798 in France, in the shadow of the French Revolution. His parents were both monarchists and devout catholics. Later on in life, Auguste will go on to reject that particular views and lifestyle. -
Education
In 1814, he started 'Ecole Plytechnique' where he proved to be a brilliant mathematician and scientist, but he ended up leaving school before graduating and later settled in Paris with no real way to support himself. -
Partnership
When Comte was 19 he met Saint-Simon, a social theorist where he found himself quite influenced and ended up becoming his secretary and collaborator. But later on that year, the partnership ended over a heated dispute over the authorship of the pairs writings. -
Doctrine
In 1826, Comte developed a social doctrine based off scientific principles where he presented a series of lectures to a group of intellectuals. During his lectures, he experienced a nervous breakdown, where he was hospitalized for periods of time over the next 15 years. -
Dismissal
In 1842, he furthered his studies of society and the development of sociology. He was able to support himself during this time, however after some time, he ended up clashing with the administrators and was dismissed. That year, he also got divorced with his wife. -
Clotilde de Vaux
In 1846, Clotilde passed (she was his long time platonic lover), he wrote the System of Positive Polity, which was based on the religion of humanity that was formulated off reason and humanity.
