  • French Indian War begins

    The British Empire and the French Empire fought a war. Lasting from 1754-1763, this war was primarily fought in the Americas. I chose this event because it is an indirect reason the 13 colonies declared independence.
  • Boston Massacre

    British Troops fire on Protesters in Boston, Massachusetts. I chose this event because it gave more reason for the colonies to revolt.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Sons of Liberty, who were angry with Britain over the topic of "taxation without representation" , stormed a British merchant ship and dumped 342 chests overboard into the Boston Harbor. I chose this event b/c it is one of the most famous protests leading up to the revolution.
  • First Constitutional Convention Held

    12 0f the 13 colonies sent delegates to Philidelphia to discuss the grievances against Britain. I chose this event b/c it was the first step to making a legislative body in the united states.
  • Revolutionary War Begins

    The war kicked off with the skirmishes between the British and American Minutemen at Concord and Lexington. I chose this event b/c it stared one of the most important wars in the United States history.
  • Second Constitutional Congress held

    The Second Constitutional Congress is held to Draft the Declaration of Independence. Delegates from all the colonies attended the congress. I chose this event b/c the Declaration of Independence was drafted and it is one of the most important documents in our nation's history.
  • American Colonies Declare Independence

    The list of grievances against Britain and a declaration of independence was sent to King George the third. I chose this event because it set the foundation for the American republic.
  • British Surrender at Yorktown, Virginia

    British Forces surrender to the Continental Army at Yorktown. I chose this event because it ended the Revolutionary War.
  • Articles of Confederation are ratified

    The countries first form of govt is put in place and ratified in Philadelphia by the second continental congress. I chose this event because it is our first form of government.
  • Revolutionary War Officially ends with Treaty of Paris

    I chose this event b/c he Treaty of Paris officially ends the Revolutionary War.
  • Constitution adopted by Constitutional Convention

    The constitutional convention meets to initially fix the articles of confederation but end up making a whole new form of govt. I chose this event because of the national and international effect it had on the world.
  • George Washington Elected 1st US President

    Washington Set precedents with everything he did in office. I chose this event because of Washington and his Cabinet, they represented the spirit of the American Experiment.
  • Bill of Rights added to US Constitution

    Listed the rights of all citizens of the united states, I chose this event because this addition to the constitution made all citizens aware of all of the rights they have.
  • Cotton Gin Invented by Eli Whitney

    Revolutionized American industry.
  • Thomas Jefferson Elected President

    Thomas Jefferson was a prominent figure in the revolution. I chose this event because out of the first three presidents Jefferson and Washington did the most.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Thomas Jefferson and the United States bought the Louisiana Purchase from Napoleon. I chose this event b/c it doubled the size of the united states.
  • Civil War Begins

    War begins when a number of states succeed from the union b/c of slavery. I chose this event because it is one of the most important and bloody wars fought in American history.
  • Union Army Wins Battle of Gettysburg

    A decisive and needed victory for the union. Basically started the beginning of the end of the war for the confederates.
  • Civil War Ends; Lincoln Assassinated

    The end of the civil war was bittersweet for the nation b/c a generation of young men were lost and Lincoln was assassinated. I chose this event b/c it started the process of reconstruction.
  • The First Transcontinental Railroad Completed

    Americans were able to travel from one side of the country to the other side in a matter of months compared to years. I chose this event b/c it allowed the American economy to grow.
