Santiago and the Englishman arrive at the oasis where he has a vision that shows an attack on the oasis as result of the ongoing wars which delayed their travel at first. He warns the tribal chiefs of the attack,and fortunately Al-Fayoum has time to successfully defends itself against the assault.

The alchemist travels with Santiago to the Coptic monastery several hours from the pyramids. Then he shows Santiago his ability to turn lead into gold using the Philosopher’s Stone.

Santiago meets Fatima, a young desert woman who he falls in love with instantaneously. He is so taken with her being that he ponders halting his journey to be with her.

The alchemist hears about Santiago’s vision and invites him on a trip to the desert, he teaches Santiago about the importance of listening to his heart and pursuing his Personal Legend. The alchemist tells Santiago to leave Fatima and the caravan to finish his journey to his treasure and he offers to accompany Santiago on the remainder of his expedition.

Arab soldiers captures them, the alchemist hands over to the tribe all of Santiago’s money and tells the soldiers that Santiago is a powerful alchemist who in three days will turn to wind.He asks the wind and the sun to help him create a tremendous sandstorm. And at the height of the storm he disappears. He reappears on the other side of the camp, and the tribesmen, impressed and scared at Santiago's strength let him and the alchemist go free.
