The party erases the past of the citizens memories, this way it is easier to control them, therefore the future, if citizens don´t remember they don´t ask unnesessary questions about what happened, what is happening or wil happen. -
TOTALITARIAN STATE
Life was a totalitarian State and draws liberally on real life examples, everything that the government said; the citizens believed it, that´s why people never questioned anything. -

In every house there were telescreens watching people's actions, that way the government could control them. -
DOUBLETHINK
Doublethink is when a person has two contradictory ideas about something and it is illegal because you are having double thoughts about something that the party presented to them. -

Newspeak is the official language of Oceania (Created by Orwell), it´s purpose was that by changing the language they could remove words that represented opposing concepts -
FACECRIME
Facecrime is commited when you make expression of dislike towards something, and it is so easy to commit it becasue most of time you express what you feel through facial expression, it´s almost involuntary. -
PUNISHMENT
If any citizen commits anything that for the party is crime, the thoughtpolice will erase all evidence that you existed -
EMMANUEL GOLDSTEIN
Rebel, leader of the brotherhood; a group that is against the part and big brother, he is the main rebel used in the two minute hate to promote love for the party and hate against everyone against the rule. He probably has a jewish name in relation to the world war II and the nazis, the party blames him just like Hitler blamed the jewish. -
WINSTON SMITH
Winston is an ironic name because it means from a friendly country, and oceania is far from being nice, so it gives the exact opposite of where he lives. Smith is a common name, this is ironic because in Oceania has no individuality.
Winston Smith believes he is around 39 years old, he works at the ministry of truth, and he is good at logical detailed work.
Winston Smith is smiliar to Churchill because they are different from the others and want to make a change. -
O'BRIEN
Winston believes he has a certain connection with O'brien, because they made eye contact during the two minute hate. Also he dreamed that O'brien said to him "that they should meet in the place where there is no darkness". -
DIARY
Winston bought a journal, and during his lunch break he wrote on it. This is one of the first times that Winston realizes how much he hates the system, even though he knows it´s dangerous to write, he still does it, he writes for the future and for the past.
