The war lasted 3 months, started on April 21, 1898. Theodore Roosevelt and his rough riders crew defeated the Spanish force easily. -

Spain withdrew from Cuba, Guam and Philippines added to the United States. -

Following the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914, war broke out in Europe between allied forces. -

5 days after the war had started, President Woodrow Wilson declared the United States neutral. -

This act made you sign up into the army as soon as you turn 18. As a result, the army grew to 4 million soldiers. -

This act basically made it illegal to interfere with the war effort or criticize government leaders. -
Sedition Act
This act expanded the Espionage act and made it to where you can't criticize the government and its officials. -
End of World War 1
Germany surrendered and was defeated, Germany was still a threat so the Treaty of Versailles blamed Germany for the war, required Germany to pay war reparations to the allied powers, and demilitarize Germany. -
Prohibition act
This act made it illegal to drink, buy, or sell alcohol. -
American isolationism
After the war, America entered a period of isolationism until 1939 when ww2 began. -
The Palmer Raids
When communism was very active, police officers were sent to people houses who were accused of being communists. -
Ku Klux Klan
Was founded to prevent African Americans from exercising their newly granted rights. They directed their violence toward Roman Catholics, Jews, African Americans, and immigrants. -
Scopes Trial
changes during the 1920's led to conflict between modern and traditional beliefs, the scopes trail prosecuted a teacher John Scopes, who was accused of violating state law by teaching the theory of evolution. -

President Roosevelt's plan to combat the Great Depression was the New Deal. The plan had three stages, relief, recovery, and reform. -
The Holocaust
Hitler launched genocide to eliminate Jews, disabled people, homosexuals, and African Americans. -
Japanese Internment Camps (order 9066)
Executive order 9066 was signed by president Roosevelt, this made many Japanese Americans forcefully move to Internment Camps because they thought they were spies from a foreign country. -

General Dwight Eisenhower led the invasion of the Normandy coast. The allied faced fierce resistance from the Germans, but Germany surrenders. -

Harry S. Truman took over as president. President learned of the Manhattan project and made the decision to drop Atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. -
