He was born in Selanik -
MIGRATION TO TURKEY
His family migrated to Istanbul with the outbereak of the Balkan War.Upon receiving a scholarship from the Turkish Ministry of Education he continued his education in Paris and graduated from Ecole Normale Superieure.Returning to Turkey, he taught mathematics at Galatasaray Lisesi. -
ISTANBUL UNIVERSITY
In 1933 he joined the Mathematics Department of Istanbul University. -
UNIVERSITY OF GOTTINGEN
He went to Gottingen, where he received his PhD from the University of Gottingen and he worked with Helmut Hasse. -
INONU AWARD
He received Inonu Award. -
TUBITAK
In 1962,he worked for of Scientific and Technological Research Council (TUBITAK). -
ROBERT COLLEGE
he joined the Mathematics Department of Robert College in Istanbul.. -
INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED STUDY
From 1964 untill 1966,He worked at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. -

He was the president of the Turkish Mathematical Society from 1985 until 1989. -

HIS DEATH
Cahit Arf died in Istanbul, at the age of 87. Arf's influence on Turkish Mathematics was profound.He is known for the Arf invariant of a quadratic form in characteristic 2 (applied in knot theory and surgery theory) in topology, the Hasse-Arf theorem in ramification theory, and Arf rings. -
CAHIT ARF ON THE NEW 10 TL BANKNOTE
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey announced that a picture of Cahit Arf will adorn the new 10 TL banknote, making him one of the few scientists to have ever been honored this way in Turkish history.
