    japan tried to solve economic problems through expansion. They intended on creating a spere of economic domination. it was important because it cut off trade and resources for the US.
  • Munich Pact

    Britain and France agreed to allow Hitler to take more land. In exchange for the agreement, he couldn't take territory after that concession. Hitler broke the pact in less than 6 months and it is important because that's what started the war.
  • kristallnacht

    Nazis in Germany torched synagogues. They also vandalized Jewish homes, schools, and businesses. it is important because it killed close to 100 jews and destroyed businesses.
  • Neutrality Acts of 1939

    It allowed nations at war to buy goods from the US if they paid cash upfront. They carried the merchandise on their own Ships. It's important because it allowed other nations to get the things they needed while helping the US out also
  • Germany invades Poland

    it led to Britain and France declaring war on Germany. Germany invaded France and launched devastating air raids on Britain. It is important because it led to the neutrality acts which was a response from the US to Germany
  • Lend- Lease Act

    congress authorized Roosevelt to dispose of any government and defense article. It basically allowed loans of war materials to any country that defended the US. it was important because it allowed us to ship needs that the other countries had that was on the US defense.
  • Atlantic Charter

    it was an agreement between Us and the British that endorsed self-determination and an international system of general determination. . It's important because it helped us prepare just in case we had to go to war
  • executive order 8022

    it prohibited ethnic or racial discrimination in the nations defense industry. African Americans served in segregated units and faced discrimination as they trained on military bases. it is important because it stopped African Americans from facing discrimination.

    at the Atlantic conference, Churchill signed the Atlantic Charter.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    it was a surprise attack launched by the Japanese against the Pearl Harbor naval base. They saw the Us Pacific fleet as a threat to its growing empire. It was important to US history because2400 Americans died, 1300 were wounded and 19 ships sunk or were damaged
  • executive order 9066

    it authorized the internment of Americans of Japanese decent and resident aliens from Japan. Japanese residents and Japanese Americans were ordered to sell their property and belongings and report for deportation to camps in the inland deserts. it is important because many of the Japanese were raised in the US/
  • Battle of Midway

    the goal was to get close enough to the Japanese home islands to launch air attacks in preparation for an invasion.The invasion was costly. it is important because it stopped the Japanese advance and put them on the defense

    the invasion of north Africa launched to free the Mediterranean sea from Germany. it was supposed to protect the oil fields in the Middle East. it's important because it took some pressure off the USSR.
  • D-Day (invasion of Normandy)

    it provided the long-awaited western front. Germany was now engaged on 3 fronts and had to divert resources to a western front.it is important because it involved the soviet union, Italy, and France and it was on D-Day.

    it was the last German offensive and the beginning of the end for the Nazis. They met in berlin to crush what was left of the nazis and before they got there Hitler committed suicide. it is important because it led to tension over soviet control of eastern europe.
  • Korematsu V. United States

    Korematsu was a Japanese American who refused to leave his home per exec order 9066. He took his case to the supreme court arguing that internment violated his rights to the constitution. It is important because he lost and all Japanese Americans had to go to internment camps.
  • Yalta Conference

    it was a meeting to decide what would happen to Europe and Germany after WWII. The USSR had agreed to march into Korea. it is important because Germany wasn't defeated at that time.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    President Truman dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He did this to prevent landing and fighting on the Japanese home islands. The Japanese surrendered and it's important because the US helped rebuild and democratize Japan after the war to create an ally
  • United Nations is created

    an organization tasked to promote international cooperation and to create and maintain international order. the idea was based originally on the league of nations. it is important because it kept peace between allies.
  • Nuremburg trials

    nazi officers and civilians were charged with crimes and they pleaded that they were following orders. the Nuremberg trials established that individuals are responsible for their own actions. it is important because it brought an end to genocide throughout the world
  • Truman Doctrine

    it pledged to contain communism in Europe. it was first applied when the US supplied military and financial aid to Greece and Turkey. it is important because it helped with communism in other countries and not just the US.
  • Marshall Plan

    the US offered Financial aid to promote economic rebuilding. it was also supposed to prevent the fall of European countries to communism. The marshall plan was important because rebuilt countries and removed trade barriers.

    US-supported self-determination with the creation of the Jewish state of israel.The US recognized and supported Israel. it is imported cause it demonstrated the impact of german war crimes.

    The Soviets blockaded Berlin to keep people from entering the city. The US supplied the people of Berlin with food, water, and other supplies through airdrops. it was important because the US won the first cold war confrontation with the Berlin Airlift
  • US establishes NATO

    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization established a military alliance aimed at the soviet union. Due to this, the Soviet Union organized the warsaw pact which was a military alliance of Eastern European nations against NATO. it is important because it led to competition between the US and the Soviet Union
  • Soviet Union test Atomic Bomb

    The Soviet Union developed an atomic bomb and tested it. This led the US to accelerate the development of the Hydrogen Bomb. It is important because it began a nuclear arms race between the two
  • Korean Conflict (War)

    North Korea invaded South Korea. the majority of troops and financial support for the Korean war came from the US. When the US neared the Chinese border their forces attacked and pushed the US back to the 38th parallel. it is important because it cost 36,000 American Lives
  • Soviet Union launches sputnik

    After Sputnik was launched is when the space race took off. as a result of the Sputnik, Congress passed the national defense education act. it is important because it set the stage for the second round of the Red Scare in the post-war world.
  • National Defense Education Act

    passed to promote science and math skills. it was also supposed to counteract the fear that consumerism had made Americans less competitive and less likely to win the arms race. it is important because eventually the US took the lead in the space race and landed the first man on the moon.
  • Rise of the Berlin Wall (Reconstruction Begins...)

    Berlin was split into east and west berlin. the city was divided by the berlin wall which became a symbol of the cold war. It was important because the presidents couldn't agree so it was supposed to keep the people of the east from escaping freedom in the west through berlin

    The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan to prop up a friendly government. US-supported Afghan resistance movement because of the containment policy. it is important because Afghan rebel groups evolved into the Taliban, which aided and sheltered Al Qaeda
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    changes in the Soviet Union due to the presidents coming to an agreement led to the fall of the berlin wall. Later on, the Soviet Union collapsed. It is important because it is considered the end of the cold war.
