Event #1- Winton Leonard Spencer Churchill was born on November 4th, 1874 at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire to parents Lord Randolph Churchill and Lady Churchill or Jeannie Jerome. His father was a British statesman from an established English Family and his mother was a New York socialite. During the early stages of his life he was raised in Dublin.
This event is significant because Winston Churchill would go on to be Prime Minister in England and would lead England in World War 2.

Event #2 - In 1893 Winston Churchill began his military career. He enrolled at the Royal Military Academy where he began to gain leadership skills that would greatly benefit him later in life. This event is significant because Winston Churchill would someday fight in World War one and would lead the Britsh military to a victory in WW2.

Event #3 - After resigning from the army in 1899 Churchill took to politics. In the year 1900 he began his political career when he won the Oldham seat at the 1900 general election. This event is significant because this was the beginning of Winston Churchill's political career.

Mona Lisa stolen
Event #4 - On August 21, 1911 Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa was stolen right off the wall of the Louvre. People had not noticed it missing until the next day however. The world famous painting was not discovered and returned to the Louvre until more than two years later. This event is significant because It helped museums realize that they had to better protect their artifacts from future theft.

Churchill is made the First Lord of the Admiralty
Event #5 - In 1911 Winston Churchill was appointed First Lord of the Admiralty. When he held this position he made sure that the Navy was always ready fight and prepared for war. This event is significant because this was one of Churchill's first major leadership roles and he would learn from his mistakes to better himself.

Titanic sinks
Event #6 - On April 15, 1912 the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg in the Northern Atlantic Ocean and sank. Nearly fifteen hundred people perished in this horrible accident and only around five hundred people survived. The Titanic was deemed "unsinkable" by its builders and as a result not enough lifeboats were put un board for all the passengers and crew. This event is significant because it caused ship companies to think more about safety for their passengers rather than the luxury.

Event #7 - In October of 1929 The Great Depression began in the United States following the crash of the stock market. The stock market crash caused massive unemployment as a result which soon led to widespread poverty throughout the nation. This event is significant because fifteen million people were out of work and the american economy was not able to recover until 1939.

Hindenberg explodes
Event #8 - On May 6, 1937 in Lakehurst, New Jersey the Hindenburg zeppelin exploded when landin and cost the lives of thirty five people. Many people who were near the exterior of the ship survived but for the crew that were in the exterior parts of the ship were not so lucky. This event is significant because the Hindenburg explsion caused the age of zepelin transportation to come to an end.

Britain officially declares war on Germany
Event #9 - On September 3, 1939 both France and Britain declared war on Nazi Germany following the invasion of Poland who was allied with France and Britain. Britain began its war on Germany by spreading anti-nazi propaganda all throughout Germany. This event is significant because it marked the beginning of one of the bloodiest wars in world history.

Churchill takes over as Prime Minister after Neville Chamberlain resigns
Event #10 - On May 10, 1940 Winston Churchill took over as prime minister following the resignation of Neville Chamberlain after the German invasion of Norway. As Prime Minister Churchill refused any peace agreements with Germany. This event is significant because Winston Churchill would lead Britain and would defeat Germany in World War 2.

Event #11 - On June 6, 1945 the invasion of Normandy began which would be a turning point in World War 2. The invasion of Normandy was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history. Event #12 - On September 2, 1945 Japan surrendered to the United States of America officially ending World War 2. Mass celebration went on across all of the allied nations as soldiers returned home. This event is significant because this marked the end to one of the bloodiest wars in world history.

Event #13 - In 1953 Winston Churchill won the the Nobel Prize for literature. Churchill won the Nobel Prize for literature "for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values". This is a significant event because Winston Churchill gave in depth first hand retellings of important events in history.

Event #14 - In December of 1956 America went to war in Vietnam. Many people were against the war in Vietnam because they thought that it was not their war to fight. This event is significant because it was one of the bloodiest wars in US history and left a serious effect on its veterans.

Event # 15 - On November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the President of the United States of America was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald. The nation was in shock as they waited to hear whether their president had survived or not. This event is significant because it marked an end to the life of one of the most influential presidents in history.

Death
Event #16 - On January 24, 1965 at the age of ninety Winston Churchill passed away from complication of a stroke that he suffered nine days earlier. Churchill's death was mourned by thousands and many world delagates at his funeral. This event is significant because it marked an end to the life of possibly one of the most important politicians in British history.
