Jamestown was founded
The british colonists founded Jamestown, it was named after King James I of England. The founding of Jamestown was a significant part of U.S history because it was the first permanent english colony in America. -
The Salem Witch trials
Many people were acused of practicing witchcraft. 19 people were hung because of convicting witchcraft. The first execution took place on January 10th. The importance of this event was that the Salem Witch Trials had to do with the proper role of government and religion in the civil society. -
The French and Indidan war
It took place in between 1754 and 1763. This war was between France and Great Britain. It started after a disagreement about land near the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers. The war resulted in a peace treaty, the british got most of the land in North America and started taxing to cover the war fees. The important part of this war is that the result was the british gaining a lot of land and making the native americans move somewhere else. -
American Revolution
Many events lead up to the American Revolution like the stamp act, the tea act, and the intolerable act.The American Revolution was the political upheaval during the 18th century between the 13 colonies and the British empire. The 13 colonies joined together and fought for freedom against Great Britain. This was important because the American Revolution was one of the steps to the U.S becoming an independent country. -
Boston Tea Party
The british colonists were angry because of the new taxing on the tea so they decided to go and dump all of the tea into the harbor. The importance of this event was that this was one of the events that led to the Revolutionary war. It was also the first act of harmless rebellion. -
The Declaration of Independence was written
The Declaration of Independence was written during the Revolutionary War while the 13 colonies were at war with Great Britain, the Declaration was written declaring independence. The declaration was written by Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, John Adams, and Robert Livingston. This was an important event in U.S history because it states that a government exists for the benefit of the people and that "all men are created equal." It also helped us declare independence from Great Britain. -
Constitution was written
The Constitution was written to establish the United States government. This document explained the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of the government. It also contains the Bill of Rights. The constitution is important because it helped form and establish our government. -
Louisiana territory purchase
the United States acquired 828,000 square miles of land in the Louisiana territory. This land was owned by France but Thomas Jefferson bought it from France for $11,250,000. The United States also agreed to forgive $3,750,000 worth of France’s debts. This is important because a big part of our country is made up of the Louisiana territory. -
Battle of the Alamo
The Battle of the Alamo was a famous part of the Texas Revolution. In 1836, General Santa Anna and his troops attacked the Alamo. All but two of the Texan troops were killed in this battle. This was important beacause it enabled Sam Houston to gather and prepare a larger army which was able to defeat the Mexicans at San Jacinto and win Texas's independence a few weeks later. -
The Civil War
The Civil War was a war between the north and the south parts of the United States. The Civil war occuerd for many reasons, like economic differences and slavery. Without the Civil War we would still have slavery in the southern parts of the United States (including Texas). -
World War 1
World War 1 was a war that involved the Allies (Russia, France, and the United Kingdom) and the Central Powers (Germany and Austria-Hungary). This war broke out due to the policies of several European empires. The United States joined this war in 1917. This war was significant because Hundreds of thousands of deaths and dozens of countries. There were many effects on the political and social landscape of the world.
