The colony of Roanoke was running short on supplies so the leader, James White, left to go get more and bring them back, When he arrived back at the colony, everyone was gone and the only trace of them was carved into a tree that said Croatoan. This slowed down settlement, because people became fearful of moving to the New World.

The French-Indian War Begins
This war was fought between the French and the British, but really colonists. It is also called the seven year war, because that is roughly about how long it lasted. The fight was for land and the British/Colonists won the land. This is important because the British would not let the colonists go onto the land to prevent further conflicts which was really the first straw in the Revolutionary war.

The Proclamation of 1763 prevented British Colonists from crossing into the Ohio River Valley. This enraged the British Colonists because they had fought for the land and now they were not allowed to go into it.

The Zimmerman telegram was a telegram intercepted by the British. The telegram was from Germany and meant for Mexico. It stated that if Mexico helped Germany if the US was to enter the war, they would guarantee Mexico the border states back which included, Arizona New Mexico and Texas. This telegram was one of the reasons the US entered World War I.
