    The declaration of independence is one of the most important documents to The United States. It was written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776 and it voiced some of the major reasons we were separating from Britain. It also provided the basis and principles for the new government to be founded upon.

    The Louisiana Purchase was a land deal between president Thomas Jefferson and France. This purchase was very important to the United States because it doubled the size and gained it complete control of the Mississippi River.
  • The Lewis and Clark Expedition

    The Lewis and Clark Expedition
    The Lewis and Clark expedition was very important in the expansion of the United States. Thomas Jefferson ordered two men, Meriwether Lewis and Wiliam Clark, to explore the new land in the United States. They successfully completed the mission and gained over two hundred records of new species and created new and accurate maps.

    On February 23, 1836 thorough March 6, 1836 a battle took place in what is today San Antonio, Texas. This battle is known as the Battle of the Alamo. This happened when Mexican President General, Antonio López de Santa Anna, ordered his troops to attack the Texans that were there.(Wikipedia.org) All the texans that were there were killed except the women and the children. This event is remembered as a crucial aspect to the Texas Reveloution.

    Trail of tears
    Through the years of 1838 and 1839 President Andrew Jackson had all of the Native Americans forced ot of their land. This was a part of his Indian Removal act. This act forced indians to uproot thier whole lives and move out west to a territory set aside for them by the government. The trail they took is referred to as the trail of tears because of all the death and sadness that occured on it.

    In 1861 Fort Sumter, a fort in South Carolina, was attacked by Confederate troops. Before sunrise on April 12, 1861 the Confederates opened fire on the fort. Then after 34 hours of nonstop fighting the fort surrendered. This battle was the beginning of the Civil War.

    The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
    One April 15, 1865 our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, was assassinated at the age of 56. He was shot while watching a play at Ford’s Theatre in Washington D.C. by a man named John Wilkes Booth. He was famous for helping to free the slaves and some people say he is one of the best presidents we’ve had.

    On December 7, 1941 the United States was attacked by the japenese in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. They blew up many battleships and killed many soliders and sailors. This attack led the United States to get involved in World War II.

    Supreme Court case: Brown vs The Board of Education
    This case started when a father sued because his daughter was not allowed to go to the school closest to her home because she was black. Then on May 17, 1954 the Supreme court made a ruling that segregation was not allowed in schools. This led to integration in all schools and opened doors to integration in other public places.

    Apollo 11
    Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that landed the first humans on the Moon. Americans Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, were on the spaceflight and landed the vessel on July 20, 1969. Nearly six hours later Neil Armstrong took the first human steps on the moon. This was a very important and influential accomplishment for America.

    In 1971 an amusement park called Walt disney World was opened after a man named Walt Disney bought property in Florida so that he could build it. The dream was to make an amusement park that would make people happy. However, Walt passed away in 1966 so he never saw his dream come true. But to this day people go to Walt disney World and it is a very popular attration.

    Elvis Presley, also known as the king of rock, died on August 16, 1977 at the age of 42. His cause of death was an overdose of prescription drugs that caused his heart to stop. He was loved all over the world for his singing and his death left many heartbroken.
  • 9/11

    9/11
    On September 11, 2001 two planes that were overtaken by terrorists flew into the two twin towers that made up the world trade center in New York City. Shortly thereafter another plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Nearly 3,000 lives were lost that day in the attacks. This event helped to start the war between the U.S and Afghanistan.

  • The death of Michael Jackson

    The death of Michael Jackson
    Micael Jackson was a very famous singer. On June 25, 2009 he died of a drug overdose in his home. Many mourned the loss of him and blamed his docter for his death. He was charged and spent two years in jail.
  • The death of Osama bin Laden

    The death of Osama bin Laden
    On May 2, 2011 the head and leader of the terrorist group al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, was killed. The United States had been trying to locate him for a very long time being he was responsible for such events as September, 11. Many rejoiced at the announcement of his death.
