    The Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was signed to tell British they were living their ruling. They wanted to be their own country. It was also made for the American people, they wanted Americans to have equal rights "Live, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness". I believe this is a significant event in American History because it helped give Americans the strength to fight for what they thought was right.
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase
    The Louisiana Purchase helped gain 828,000 square miles of territory from France to the United States. The Louisiana Territory stretched from the Mississippi River in the east to the Rocky Mountains in the west and from the Gulf of Mexico in the south to the Canadian border in the north. This purchase of land cost $15 million bought by Thomas Jefferson. The reason why this event is important to U.S history because it helped create this country.
  • Women's rights

    Women's rights
    The woman suffrage movement actually began in 1848, when a women’s rights convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York. The Seneca Falls meeting was not the first in support of women’s rights, but suffragists later viewed it as the meeting that launched the suffrage movement. This movement has changed the world till the day because women are now able to work in many jobs and not just be the housewife.
  • Sand Creek Massacre

    Sand Creek Massacre
    On a peaceful day Southern Cheyenne and Arapahoe Indians are massacred by a band of Colonel John Chivington’s Colorado volunteers at Sand Creek, Colorado.The causes of the Sand Creek massacre were rooted in the long conflict for control of the Great Plains of eastern Colorado.The Sand Creek Massacre resulted in a heavy loss of life, mostly among Cheyenne and Arapaho women and children. This affected how many viewed the us army after harming these peaceful people.
  • Red River War

    Red River War
    This war was started by the U.S in an attempt to force the indians to move onto reservations. After months of running and fighting back Southern Plain Indians gave up and left the land. The war meant more land for farmers and the U.S growing. I think this is an important event because it shows and we took land from innocent people that were already here before them. I also think it has shaped U.S to a better place making more farms and jobs at the time.
  • Spanish-American War

    Spanish-American War
    The Spanish-American War was an 1898 conflict between the U.S and Spain.This war ended Spanish colonial rule in the Americas and resulted in U.S. acquisition of territories in the western Pacific and Latin America. This war was important to U.S history because it created a peace treaty with the Spanish to relinquish claims on Cuba, and to cede sovereignty over Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines to the United States. The U.S also added the independent state of Hawaii during the conflict.

    WW1 had already been going on for three years when president Wilson decided to join the war. Wilson had declared neutrality till Germany had caused one of U.S's boats to sink and kill Americans.TH
  • Women’s Rights

    Women’s Rights
    Women at first didn’t have rights at first but they continued to fight for them. On June 4, 1919 congress passed the right for women to vote. The fight for them to vote was ratified on August 18, 1920. Women had the right to vote based off of the 19th Amendment, which let all American women get the right to vote. I believe this is significant in our history because it showed how we were in some way in the right direction and changing our country as a whole.

    The Great Depression was the worst economic downturn in the history of the industrialized world.It began after the stock market crash of 1929, which sent Wall Street into a panic and wiped out millions of investors. Over the next several years, consumer spending and investment dropped, causing steep declines in industrial output and employment as failing companies laid off workers. When the Great Depression reached its lowest 15 million Americans were unemployed and half the banks had failed.
  • Social Security Act

    Social Security Act
    An act to provide for the general welfare by establishing a system of Federal old-age benefits, and by enabling the several States to make more adequate provision for all types of people.The main stipulation of the original Social Security Act was to pay financial benefits to retirees over age 65 based on lifetime payroll tax contributions. Now we use our SS to identify ourselves and stop framing from happening.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    Pearl Harbor is a U.S. naval base that was the scene of a surprise attack by Japanese forces. That Sunday morning, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes descended on the base, where they managed to destroy nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight battleships, and over 300 airplanes. More than 2,400 Americans died in the attack, including civilians, and another 1,000 people were wounded. The day after the assault, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan.
  • The Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki

    The Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki
    The U.S. dropped the bomb "Little Boy" on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Even though the bomb had devastating effects, Japan did not surrender right away. The United states was hoping that Japan would surrender because they wanted the war to be over with. This is a significant event because it showed America that we need to grow our military stronger for battle or war.
  • End of Segregation in Schools

    End of Segregation in Schools
    The Brown v The Board of Education played a big part in removing Segregation from schools. Now after it was past Both African American and Caucasian American boys and girls to go to school together. At first many people didn’t like this and would remove their kids for the schools that the African American kids went to. I feel that this moment is important to our history because it showed people how if they come together and fight for fair change they can make it happen.
  • Rosa Parks bus boycott

    Rosa Parks bus boycott
    Rosa Parks was riding the bus when she was arrested for sitting in a white persons seat. The African Americans had to sit in the back of the bus, that’s why Rosa got arrested for, because she was not following orders to move. She was arrested on December 1, 1955 which started a boycott of African American people not riding the buses. I felt that this event is important because it shows how people will come together to fight for changes no matter what they have to do.
  • NASA Formed

    NASA Formed
    They were formed because of the space race. The outer space race was between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. NASA was created in 1958 from NACA ( National Advisory Committee for Areonautics) they were formed in 1915. I think this is significant to American history because NASA helped us explore what's out in the universe.
  • Cesar Chávez Grape Boycott

    Cesar Chávez Grape Boycott
    He was an American leader and civil rights activists. He co-founded the National Farm Workers Association in 1962. The Strike was against grape growers in California. The farm workers just wanted better pay and health benefits. I feel that this was a significant moment in U.S history because it showed how no matter what language you speak you can fight for something everyone believes in fighting for.
  • The assassination of MLK

    The assassination of MLK
    Martin Luther King Jr., was a baptist minister and a social rights activist. He fought for the rights of African Americans. He was assassinated because people didn't believe in what he was doing. This event is significant to American history because he was one of the first people to fight for the African Americans at any cost.
  • September 11 attacks

    September 11 attacks
    On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Almost 3,000 people were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks
  • 1st U.S African-American President

    1st U.S African-American President
    Senator Barack Obama of Illinois was elected president of the United States over Senator John McCain of Arizona. Obama became the 44th president, and the first African American to be elected to that office. He was subsequently elected to a second term over former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. History had immediately changed at that moment, many citizens believed an african american would ever be our president. This change U.S history because it proved how far we've come.
  • March For Our Lives

    March For Our Lives
    The March For Our Lives event was organized because of gun violence and wanting to put a stop to it. The kids that survived the school shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School wants gun violence to end. The students used the #NeverAgain to say that they are going to fight for school shootings and gun violence to end. I feel like this is a significant event in U.S. history because it shows how no matter what age you are you can make a strong impact for change in the world.
