French And Indian War
The French And Indian War was a 7 year war in which the French American colonists teamed up with the Native Americans to assert their dominance over the British in the Americas. This war affected many of the great powers including: Europe, North and Central America, and many more regions of the world. I chose this event because it was the last straw in a century long conflict between Britain and France and it helped to persuade the French to help in the revolutionary war. -
Revolutionary War
An 8 year war between Britain and the American colonists who wanted to, then did, declare their independence and become the United States Of America. all battles took place on American soil which gave the Yankees (as they were called) an advantage. The revolutionary war was important for many reasons, I chose this event because without it we might still be under British rule today and It was the first of 2 times Britain would ever be defeated by America. -
Declaration Of Independence signed
The 56 delegates from the 13 colonies met at the second continental congress to sign the document declaring independence from Britain. They met at what is now known as Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I chose this event because many people think the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th but really it was signed and sent whole month after it was approved (July 4th). This event is important because it granted the colonists their natural rights. -
Articles of Confederation ratified
Many founding fathers helped to write the articles of confederation but none of the big names such as: Hamilton, Adams, Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Jay, etc. It was written at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I chose this event because it lead to the need for a stronger more centralized government. This event is important because they set up such a poor government, that they realized the needed a new one, and the one they created last lasted for over 200 years. -
Start of Constitutional Convention
55 delegates, including Washington, Hamilton, Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, and Adams, meet at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvaniato talk about setting up a new government to replace the Articles Of Confederation. I chose this event because it is where they created the longest lasting government in the history of the world. and without it we would probably still be living under the mess that was the Articles Of Confederation. -
Federalist & Anti-Federalist Papers
The federalist papers were a collection of essays written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay that were attempting to persuade the public to ratify the Constitution. The Anti-Federalist papers were a collection of essays written by Patrick Henry and other founding fathers trying to persuade against ratification. They were published in New York Newspapers and without them the Bill of Rights Would not have been added and the Constitution wouldn't have been ratified. -
Constitution Ratified
The U.S. Constitution was created to implement a new more centralized government and to identify the peoples right. The 13 states all ratified it and it was signed at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This event is important because without the Constitution the United States could be living under the Article of Confederation or worse we could be living as different countries constantly at war with one another. -
George Washington Leaves Office
George Washington, the first president of the United States, gave his farewell address and stepped down from office on March 4th, 1797 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (the capital at the time). I chose this event because when Washington left office, politicians divided themselves into political parties based on their beliefs and this very much so still affects our world of politics today. This event is important because it set the precedent of only being in office for 2 terms. -
Alexander Hamilton's duel with Aaron Burr
On the morning of July 11th, 1804, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr stood on the shore of Weehawken NJ to face each other in one of the most famous duels of all time. After being shot during the duel Hamilton died on July 12th, 1804. I chose this event because when Hamilton died the world lost one of the greatest minds to ever live. This event is important because if he hadn't died on the summer day in 1804 he could have done so many more great things in this world. -
The War Of 1812 Starts
The war started when France and Britain were once again at odds with each other and America wanted to stay neutral and trade with both nations. France and Britain started destroying American trading vessels and that's when the war started. I chose this event because it was the only other time (other than the Revolutionary War) that America defeated Britain. This event is important because it marked the end of the Federalist party though the republicans adopted many of their ideals -
The Monroe Doctrine Declared
James Monroe declared that any European nation to attempt interference/ futher colonize in the western hemisphere would be seen as an act of war against the United States. I chose this event because I thought it was cool when American asserted its dominance and showed that we are not a pushover. -
Battle of the Alamo
A 13 day (February 23- March 6th, 1836) siege where the president of Texas, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna reclaimed the Alamo mission. I chose this battle in the Texan revolution because it helped them win independence from Mexico which then lead to them becoming a state. this event is important because it inspired many Texans to keep fighting for independence. -
California Gold Rush Begins
James Marshall found the first gold nugget while placer mining at Suter's Mill in Coloma California. I chose his event because the gold rush massively improved the American economy. This event is important because it stuck up the great migration in which 300,000 people moved to California in search of riches. -
The New York Times Founded
Henry Jarris was the first publisher of the New York Times. The new York times was created to be conservative and to aid the pubic. I chose this even because the New York Times is still one of the most influential newspapers today. It's important because journalists and politicians alike can sway public opinion and share important info with everyone. -
Abraham Lincoln Becomes President
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. Before he was elected he was the senator of Illinois. I chose this event because when Lincoln became president many reforms came right along with him. his presidency is important because the events afterward transformed America and pushed it in a new direction. -
Start of civil war
The civil war was fought between the northern states (the Union) and the southern states (the Confederacy). the war was brought about for 3 reasons: the economics of cotton, slavery, and states rights. I chose this event because by the end of the civil war slavery will be outlawed and the states would no longer be rivaling the federal government for power. if there hadn't been a war then the united states would have become two separate countries, weakening our power compared to other nations. -
!3th Amendment Goes Into Affect
The 13th amendment is the amendment that abolished slavery. Abraham Lincoln signed it in Washington DC on January 31st of 1865. This event also formally marks the end of the civil war. I chose this event because it was a turning point in the history of the United States. this event is important because it formally abolished slavery, launching America into a new time period where ALL (male) citizens are given the rights they were promised as citizens of the US. -
Abraham Lincoln Assassinated
On April 15th, 1865 John Wilkes Booth shot and killed President Abraham Lincoln at Peterson House Theatre in Washington DC. I chose this event because Abraham Lincoln was the first president to ever be assassinated. This event is important to US history because Abraham Lincoln did so many great things for the United States and if he had continued on in his second term he could have done so much more. the man who abolished slavery didn't even get to live to see all the good he did by it. -
Yellowstone National Park Established
Ulysses S. Grant and the US congress approved the establishment of Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone is located across 3 states: Wyoming, Montana, Idaho. I chose this event because national parks are and important factor in protecting our environment. This event is important because it was the first national park to ever be established and after it came thousands more established in almost every country. Today there are 2942 parks all over the world. -
First Successful Telephone Call
Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone, made his first successful long distance call on the telephone. He called from New York to Chicago and said this to his assistant," Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you." I chose this event because its cool to hear about the first time someone used something that we now use on a daily basis. This event is important because if Alexander Graham Bell hadn't invented the first telephone, our world would be very different today.
