Timeline of Exposure to Traditional or New Media

  • TV & DS Lite

    TV & DS Lite
On 2007, I was a 4 year old kid who had barely any idea on how technology worked. All I remember from this time was the story that my siblings would tell me, about me taking their DS Lite and deleting all their progress on Pokemon. Regarding the TV, I remember my mom telling me I loved to watch Barney DVDs on repeat at this age.
  • Xbox

    Xbox
The initial release date of said Xbox 360 was 2005, and I was properly introduced to it on the year 2008 when I was old enough to take interest in it. I hadn't played but I watched my brother play all the games and it caught my attention.
  • Computers, Internet, Facebook, PSP

When I was 6, I was made aware of computers and social media. Although I was introduced to computers well-before this, I only truly (sort of) understood how to use it at this age. I vividly remember making my Facebook account at this age along with my tita and my sister who helped me out. I also remember playing Tekken on my PSP.
  • Blackberry, Wii, PS3

    Blackberry, Wii, PS3
At this time, I reached the age of 8 and my family bought a Wii. It was the first gaming console I ever played and had a lot of fun with it. I remember playing Wii tennis and Wii golf with my family during weekends. We also had a PS3 which I would watch my brother play on after the Xbox phase. Aside from that, my mom deemed me old enough to have a phone to contact them through and gave my a hand-me-down Blackberry.
  • Iphone, Macbook IPad, Kinect

By the age of 9, I got my first Iphone 5 and constantly borrowed my mom's Macbook (which was given to me after a year). During this time, I was made aware of Kinect, an addition to the Xbox 360 which was made to track your movements during a game.
  • Instagram, PS4

    Instagram, PS4
After getting my Iphone, my most used feature was my camera app. At the age of 11, I was developing hobbies and one of them happen to be photography. I loved the idea of keeping memories frozen in a picture that I can always look back to. Aside from keeping them in my phone, with my fear of them getting deleted, I started using this app called Instagram to create a feed with all the pictures for future throwbacks. I was also interested in gaming which got me into the PS4.
  • Camera, Polaroid, 3DS

    Camera, Polaroid, 3DS
At age 12, my family started seeing that my hobby of photography was turning into a passion. I took pictures of everything with my phone and cherished the angles and portraits I took with it. So, they gave me my first camera that I remember taking everywhere with me. Soon after, I started getting interested with vintage things and bought myself a polaroid instax mini.
  • Books

    Books
I only started getting into books when I was 13. I used to find them boring because of my impatience but, then, started realizing that books are a way through my imagination and it was amazing. After this age, I started to read books often and when I have time.
  • PSVR, Typewriter

    PSVR, Typewriter
Although the PSVR was out (A Virtual Reality mask: an addition to the PS4), I seemed to be more interested in objects that have a vintage aesthetic. I enjoyed using the VR which i'd play often. But, when I was 14, I was hooked on my first ever typewriter that my dad got me for Christmas.
  • Film Camera, Polaroid, Digital Drawing Tablet, Record Player

Film Camera, Polaroid, Digital Drawing Tablet, Record Player
After being fascinated by the typewriter, I had an urge to get more vintage objects. For my photography, I started being more interested in Film photography, buying my first point-and-shoot camera for a more "raw look" to my pictures. For my love of music, I loved the sound of a more authentic, raw music played on vinyl. Then, for my art side, I was building my skill on digital drawing and decided to be introduced in the ways of digital art.
