Started Kindergarten
First day of school at 4 years old. Very excited although very nervous. This is a social norm, everyone goes to school. This is also a social institution of education, it is the start of my education. I will be influenced by this event because it was the beginning of my many years of schooling ahead of me. -
Leaned to play Hockey
Leaned to play my first hockey game at age 4. This is an example of a social institution of community, at age 4 I started to be involved in my community. This influenced me by it being the start of a lifelong activity that I will forever enjoy. -
First Job
Had my first job in grade 2 doing a paper route with my older brother. This is an example of a social role, even though I was young, it was still a responsibility I had. I have been influenced by this event by it being the start of my working life. Ever since I was in grade 2 I have worked every year. -
Graduated elementary school
I graduated 10 years of schooling and was off to high school the next year. This is an example of a life event and transition into a new chapter of life. It could also be an example of cohort, because all of the people I've grown up with were going through the same event. This event has influenced me by it being the end of 10 great years of school and it made me realized that a new chapter of life was starting. -
Started high school
First day of high school and I was very nervous. This could be an example of social roles because I would now have a new responsibility as a person. It could also be an example of social institutions of education because now is when planning for your future actually starts. I was influenced by this event by it being the start of school that really matters, and this pushed me to try my hardest and to strive for good marks. -
Made the high school hockey team
First time playing for a school team and I was very excited. This is an example of role conflict because I now had to manage school work and hockey together. This could also be an example of social institutions of community because I was getting more involved in the hockey community. This event has influenced me by making me realize that you wont get anything if you don't try. I remember debating if I should tryout for the team because I didn't think I would make it. But I decided to just try. -
Got my driver's license
Got my driver's license on my 16th birthday. This is an example of a life event, I could now drive a car, and it was a great feeling. This event has influenced me because it was the beginning of a major responsibility, it taught me to always be careful and to take my time. -
Covid-19 Pandemic
March 13th was our last day in school before our whole country locked down due to the worldwide pandemic, this has been and still is difficult for everyone. This is an example of cohort because everyone in the world is going through this together. It could also be an example of role strain or conflict because everyone is trying to keep their jobs and still be okay financially but it is difficult for many people. this event influenced me because it showed my how precious life is. -
Got my Pilot's license
After 9 months of training, I passed my licensing tests and became a private pilot at age 17. This is an example of a life event and a transition because this was the next step towards my career. It could also be an example of a social role because I had to stay committed to the training for 9 months and and it was a huge responsibility. This event influenced me because it showed me that hard work pays off and it made me more determined. It has taught me to never give up even when it is easy to.
