    Vasco Da Gama was an explorer from portugal. He was trying to find a route from Europe to Asia. He thought the fastest way was to sail east. He was the first European to reach India by ship. He was driven out by the Arab traders who didn’t want him there but his mission was a success. This is important because without him we wouldn't have known a way to Asia so soon.

    When King Henry divorced his wife for not giving birth to a boy, the Catholic pope said he could not get divorced. So he changed England. Now, England had to go to the Anglican church (the church of England). Also, the pope of the church was not the one who made all the decisions. This is important because it showed how powerful and selfish some kings were during this time.

    De Soto was from Spain. He began exploring the Southeast part of North America. He believed he was the 1st European to find the mississippi river. This is important because the mississippi river is a very famous river and without him it wouldn’t have been discovered.

    After many wives, King Henry gets a son named Edward. When King Henry dies, Edward becomes king at 11 years old. Then, at 15, Edward dies. This is important because this started the drama between King Henry’s daughters Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary, also known as Bloody Mary.

    King Philip was the leader of the Wampanoags. Indians were asked to surrender by colonists. The indians killed catholic native. So the colonists killed 3 indians which caused everyone to break out in war. King Philip and his family was captured and killed. Colonists won this war. This is important because it created long lasting tension between wampanoags and colonists.

    In 1675, Nathaniel Bacon led 1,00 frontier settlers to attack native americans. They were declared “rebels”. They burned Jamestown and forced the governor to flee. Bacons rebellion ended when he got ill and died. The governor hung 23 of his men. this didn’t stop settlers from moving onto native land. This is important because it gives an examples of America standing up for themselves.

    In Salem, people started to believe that some women and men were involved in witchcraft. 19 innocent people were hung for the accusation of witchcraft. This is important because it first introduced the idea of witchcraft and change a lot of peoples beliefs.

    In 1754, Washington accidently kills French ambassador while trying to negotiate peace. This is important because it officially started the French & Indian War.

    This treaty involved four sides, France, Spain, England, and the Indians. Each side benefited in the end except the Indians. This was important because it officially ended the French & Indian War.

    Parliament placed taxes on sugar and molasses from foreign countries. James Otis said, “No taxation without representation.” This became a common chant because colonists had no representation in Parliament. This is important because it was the start of the colonists slowly easing away from British rule because of ridiculous taxes and rules.

    This act said colonists were required to give british soldiers a place to live and provide them with food. This was outrageous because Parliament was placing taxes on everything causing the colonists to go broke and then had to house soldiers who mistreated colonists. This was important because it goes to show how disrespectful and rude Parliament wa to colonists.

    Because Parliament was mad about repealing the Stamp Act, the same day they passed the Declaratory Act. This stated that Parliament could pass any law and make and tax they wanted to. This angered the colonists. This was important because it helped convince colonists to rebel against the British and to become independent.

    Parliament required colonists to only buy British East India tea & also put a tax on the tea. This infuriated colonists. So the Sons of Liberty, a rebel group, boarded the british ship and dumped out all the tea into the water. This is important because it was the first message showing parliament that the colonists were putting up with ridiculous rules and taxes.

    “Common Sense” is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine that inspired the 13 colonies to declare and fight for independence from the British. This is important because it inspired many colonists to support the idea of independence.

    During the Revolutionary War, US troops spent the harsh winter at Valley Forge. Many people died of disease. Many didn’t have shoes and there was little food. This was important because it showed how much our troops went through for our independence.

    Before the Battle of Saratoga, US seemed to be losing the Revolutionary War. Then they won this battle. This was known as the turning point of the war. This is important because the fact that they won convinced the French to help out colonists and help them win the war.

    In 1805, President Jefferson instructed Lewis & Clark to make an expedition and record everything they see and encounter. They met the Indian Sacagawea who acted as a guide for them. She was brave & smart. This was important because without them many things wouldn't be discovered.

    the war of 1812 was declared by US against British because british were harassing US. This lasted from July 1812 to January 1815. The british burned/destroyed everything that the US government owned. They even burned the White House. Dolly Madison saved George Washington's portrait. They then signed a peace treaty. This was important because it showed how ruthless british were during this time towards the US.

    US government forced many native tribes to travel west of Mississippi River. A small number of Cherokees were tricked into signing land to US government. During the trail, about ⅓ died. This is important because many Americans were shocked & ashamed of the way native people were treated.

    In 1830, Congress this act which gave the US government the power to force any native tribe in the east to move west of the Mississippi River. This was not fair to the natives who were there first. Many natives died and couldn’t even have proper rituals for the lost of a loved one. This was important because it shows how brutal and ruthless some colonists were back then.

    In 1848, James M. found 2 gold nuggets in California. Word got out and everyone began to overpopulate California in hope of finding gold. This was called the California Gold Rush. This was important because without this California would've never had enough people to become a state.

    The Compromise of 1850 was a way of getting the south and north to agree on having some advantages and some disadvantages for each side. This was important because it tried to get north and south to a peaceful agreement.

    The Fugitive Slave Acts were a pair of federal laws that allowed for the capture and return of runaway slaves within the territory of the United States. But, some people would be payed to catch runaway slaves and then they’d capture free people and pretend their slaves for the money. This angered abolitionists. This was important because it helped persuade the north to take a stand for the slaves.

    The Underground Railroad was a network of secret routes and safe houses used by enslaved people in the United States in efforts to escape to free states and Canada with the aid of abolitionists who were sympathetic to their cause. It was ran by the famous Harriet Tubman. It helped save many African slaves. This was important because it saved many lives.

    Uncle Toms Cabin
    “Uncle Toms Cabin” was a story about the life of a slave written by a white woman named Harriet Stowe. It told how horrible the life of a slave is and how badly they are treated in the South. It became very popular and the North began to want to abolish slavery because of this cruel treatment. This was important because without this story, people wouldn't know how a slave lives and they wouldn't want to help them.
  • John Browns Raid

    John Browns Raid
    In 1859, there was an abolitionist named John Brown. He was really anxious for slavery to end. He decided that him and his sons were going to make a plan to get slaves to fight back for their freedom. Problem was, he didn't tell the slaves about this plan. This plan ended awful, killing three of his sons. He was captured and he admitted that he doesn’t regret anything and that he'd do it again. This was important because it showed how far people would go in the US to save slaves.
