The hole is a symbol of a shield; being that it shields Buck from the cold outside world. It does not only shield from temperature cold, but evil cold. -

This event shows Buck's metamorphosis because Buck reveals his inner primordial self by connecting to his ancestors by joining the hunt.This is an allusion because all animals must hunt to live, or else they would die, but all animals feel more wild and primordial when committing their first kill. -

This shows Buck metamorphosis because during this event he fights a higher archery being Spitz. Doing this he showed that he can sand up for himself.
The snow symbolizes softness and kindness, but can also symbolize extreme cold and hatred. This is like juxtaposition between Buck and Spitz. -

Buck saving John Thornton is huge in the process of Buck's metamorphosis. When Buck preforms this his relationship with John increases and he starts to trust the humans again.Their relationship is an allusion to "Marley and Me". This alludes to the movie because the human and dog become strongly tied to each other, and when one died, the other becomes devastated. -

This event contributes to Buck's metamorphosis because it shows that Buck is a beast. Buck is not a housedog anymore; Buck is now a wolf.The sled is an example of juxtaposition because it juxtaposes Buck, who is very strong, and the sled, which is very heavy. These two objects are opposite. -

This event is very important to the metamorphosis of Buck because during this step Buck unleashes his primordial self and roams free with his wolf friend. He truly acts like a wolf; hunting meat, running with wolves, and howling like their ancestors.
Buck howling at the moon is very symbolic to Buck's metamorphosis. By doing this Buck is transforming into a primordial beast, being enveloped with the thoughts of a true wolf. -

This event is an allusion to history. During this event Buck attacks the Yeehats, this native tribe was feared by many Canadian citizens and the tribe was very ferocious. -
The Legacy Lives On
This event it a major step in Buck's metamorphosis because this is the final step. This is how Buck will be remembered for the rest of his life; he is known as the Ghost Dog.
Buck's name of the Ghost Dog is very simplistic to the book because during Buck's lifetime he nearly wiped out an entire population of wildlife; killing nonstop.
