The battle of Fort Sumter
This was the battle that started the war. What happened was the south basically signed a thing saying that they weren't going to be part of union anymore. Fort Sumter was in the south and Lincoln had to decide whether or not to restock it or let the south take it. He decided to restock it and when his troops went inside the south started shooting at it. The south won that battle. It is significant because it is the first battle of the civil war. -
The Battle of Bull Run
So what happened was the north had troops that weren't trained very well. The south had more prepared and better trained men. President Lincoln told the unprepared troops from the north to attack. They were defeated and the south won by a landslide. This battle is significant because it showed how prepared the south was for the war -
The battle of Antietam
The south had a plan to take over Maryland but the north decided to counter attack. The south learned about this plan and rounded up their troops together. By the time they were together they were tired and worn out. McClellan then decided to attack. The south was outnumbered two to one so the north won the battle. They did not secure the victory by stopping the south from retreating. This battle was significant because it marked the turning point in the war where the north began to win. -
The battle of Gettysburg
This was the last battle fought in the north during the civil war. This battle is important because it one of the most famous battle in american history. The North won this battle and from this point on, the question wasn't who was gonna win the war but how long could the south last. The North had a better position causing them to win the war. It was the bloodiest battle of the civil war. -
The surrender.
Grant and Lee met in a house. They first had some small talk and then Lee was all like,"what are the terms of the surrender." Grant said that they would join back into the union. The soldiers would be pardoned. They would be able to keep their horses. No more slaves. This was important because it marked the end of the war -
Lincoln Assassination
Lincoln was assassinated during a play by John W. Booth. John was a northerner but he supported the southerners cause. He had killed Lincoln after the war. He then proceeded to jump out of the box and broke his leg. He then ran away. Lincoln did the next day. The way he was assassinated was a gun shot to the head. This was important because our president was killed.
