    Battle of Fort Sumter
    The start date was April 12, 1861 and the end date was April 14, 1861. On April 10, 1861, Beauregard, in command of provisional Confederate forces at Charleston. They demanded the surrender of the Union garrison of Fort Sumter in Charleston
    Harbor. Garrison commander Anderson refused. Confederate guns in a ring around Fort Sumter and it began the bombardment taht intiated the bloodiest war in American history. -Confederate victory

  • Battle of Hampton Roads

    Battle of Hampton Roads
    The start date was March 8,1862 and the end date was March 9, 1862. On March 8th, 1862, from the berth at Norfolk, the conferderate inronclad Virginia steamed into Hampton Roads where they sank Cumberland and ran congress aground. On March 9th, the Union ironclad Monitor having fortultously arrived to do battle initated the first engagment of ironclads in history. The two ships fought each other to a standstill, but Virginia retired.

    The start date was April 6, 1862 and the end date was April 7, 1862. The Battle of Shiloh was also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing, it was a major battle in the Western Theater of the American Civil War. The Battle of Shlioh was fought Tennessee. There were a total of 23,746 people. -Union victory

    Battle of Fredericksburg
    The start date was December 11, 1862 and the end date was December 15, 1862. The Battle of Fredericksburg was one of the largest and deadlist of the Civil War. It featured the first major opposed river crossing in American military history. Burnsides plan at Fredricksburg was to use the nearly 60,00 men. Rougly six weeks after the Battle of Fredricksburgh, President Lincoln removed the Army of the Potomac.

    Battle of Chancellorsville
    The start date was April 3, 1863 and the end date was May 6, 1863. On April, 1863- three days before the historic Battle of Chancellorsville-Maj.gen Joseph Hooker led to the V, XI and XII Corps on a campaign to turn the conferderates left flank by crossing the Rappanhannock and Rapidan Rivers above Fredericksburg. This finally broke the Federal line at Chancellorsville. This battle was considered by many historians to be Lee's greatest victory- Confederate victory

    The start date was May 13th, 1863 and the end date was July 4, 1863. In May and June of 1863, Grant's armies converged on Vicksburg, investing the city and entrapping a Confederate army. On July 4th, Vicksburg of one of the most brilliant military compaigns of the war. Grant's successes in the west boosted his reputation, leading ultimately to his appointment as a General-in-Chief of the Union armies. -Union victory

    The start date is July 1,1863, and the end date was July 3,1863. The battle of Gettysburg was fought July 1-3 1863, in arond the town Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The battle was the largest number of casualties in the American Civil War.

    Battle of Chickamauga
    The start date is September 18, 1863 and the end date is September 20, 1863. The three army corps comprising Rosecran's army aplit and set out for consolidated his forces scattered in Tennessee and Georgia. Thomas then led these men from the field leavcing from the field leaving it to the Confederates. The Union retired to Chattcunooga while rebels occupied the surrounding heights. -Confederate victory

    The start date was May 5th, 1864 and the end date was May 7th, 1864. The opening battle of Grant's sustained offensive aganist the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia. The IX Corps moved aganist the Confederate center, but was repulsed. Union Generals James S. Wadsworth & Alexander Hays were killed. On May 7th, the Federals advanced by the left flank toward the crossroads of Spotsylvania Courthouse. -Grant continued his offensive

    Battle of Spotsylvania
    The start date is May 8, 1864 and the end date is May 21, 1864. It was a two week battle along the Spotsylvania front. The Union attacked aganist the Bloody Angle at dawn on May 12th and 13th. On May 19th a confederate attempt to turn the Union right flank at Harris Farm was beaten back. On May 21st Grant disengaged and continued his advance in Richmond.

    The start date was June 15th, 1864 and the end date was April 2, 1865. This battle lasted 9 months. Union forces were well supplied. Lee attempeted a breakout, and it failed miserably. Union forces soon assulted the Confederate lines. The army of Virginia was forced to withdrawl from both Petersburg and Richmond.

    The start date is November 15th and the end date is December 22, 1864. On November 12, 1864, Sherman marched out o f Atlanta towards the Atlantic coast. He devoted the next few weeks to chasing confederate troops through George in a vain attempt to lure them into a decisive fight.

    Battle of Lincoln's Assassination
    The start date was April 14t, 1865 and the end date was April 15th, 1865. The assassination of United States president Abraham Lincoln took place on Good Friday. The assassination occured five days after the commanding general of the Army of Northern Virginia. The assassnation was planned and carried out by well-known actor John Booth. Lincoln was shot while the play our American cousin at Ford's Therate in Washington D.C, with his wife Mary Todd Lincoln. He died the next morning.
