    East India Company Arrives
    The East India Company is a united company of merchants in England trading to the East Indies. The spice demand was high during this time, so this began the Spice Trade. The trade was monopoly of Spain and Portugal. This effected India as a whole because British started to rule.
  • British Ruling

    British Ruling
    The British at this point are trying to educate the Indians and gain their friendship. They slowly push into a higher power and end up ruling India. The British educate the indians and try to turn them into civilized people and take away the culture, and the indians start to realize.
  • Indian Revolt

    Indian Revolt
    The Indian revolt in 1857 was also known as Sepoy Mutiny. The Sepoys were native soldiers for the East Indiq company, they regulated all the trade at the main posts. The majority of the sepoys were Muslim or Hindu. The British started pushing christianity and trying to convert people and this made the sepoys angry. This set off a riot and rebellion from the sepoys.
  • Salt March

    Salt March
    After World War I, the indians expected some more independance but it wasnt given to them. Gandhi was an icon for the indians he stood up for all and believed in non violent protests. Gandhi porotested the tax that was put on salt by the British, by walking the long journey to the sea and picking up handfuls of salt. Many of his followers were arrested and killed but gandhi was arrested and then released and a truce was made.
  • Independence

    Independence
    India became independent on August 15th 1947. This is actually celebrated at Indepence day in India. They gained freedom and seperation from the British.
