The Proclamation of 1763 was a law passed by the British which banned colonists from settling west of the Appalachian mountains. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar act was a tax that was placed on sugar and molasses by the British Parliament. I think this was important because colonists were not happy about this tax and started protests. -
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act placed a tax on all paper goods. I think this event was important because many people were very upset about being taxed. -
American Revolution
A political movement/ war that led to the independence of the United States. I think the American Revolution was important because it made us independent from the British Empire. -
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts was a tax placed on leads, glass, paint, and tea. I think this was important because they kept placing taxes on things and the colonists kept getting mad because they were getting taxed without their consent. -
The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre happened when colonists started confronting British soldiers, the colonists started threatening them and the soldiers ended up firing. I think this was important because 5 colonists died for speaking their mind. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was when the Sons of Liberty disguised themselves as Native Americans and boarded ships to dump tea into the harbor. I think this was important because in their mind, they did this to prove that they were "loyal British citizens." -
The Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were made by King George the Third in an attempt to "master" the colonists. I think this was important because this act actually had the opposite effect. -
The First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress was when representatives from the colonies had a debate about how to best oppose British policy or how to negotiate. I think this was important because it was the first time delegates from all over the colonies got together. -
The Battle of Lexington and Concord
The Battle of Lexington and Concord began when a shot was fired and the British defeated the minutemen, they continued marching to Concord. I think this event was important because as the British were leaving Concord they were surprised by more minutemen which ended up killing a lot of the British soldiers. -
Olive Branch Petition
A petition sent to the King to prevent war from being declared. I think this was important because Congress tried to stop war but the king just ignored the petition. -
The Declaration of Independance
When Congress declared independence from England. I think this was important because it is now why we have 4th of July since America got accepted to become independent. -
Crossing the Delaware
Washington along with troops crossed the Delaware in order to attack troops in New Jersey. I think this was important because Washington won the war. -
Battle of Saratoga
The Battle of Saratoga was a plan made by the British to capture the city of Albany and take control of the Hudson River. I think this event was important because it was the first major American victory. -
Battle of Yorktown
The final battle of the American Revolution which led to the surrender of the British. I think this battle was important because it led to the British signing the Treaty of Paris. -
The Treaty of Paris 1783
The signing of this treaty ended the revolution and declared America's independence. I think this treaty was important because it made us an independent nation. -
The Great Compromise
An agreement stating that there would be equal representation in the lower and upper houses of Congress. I think this was important because small states were able to get an equal number of votes. -
The Bill of Rights
Amendments written to protect individual liberties. I think the Bill of Rights is very important because it gives us liberties such as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, etc. -
Whiskey Rebellion
The Whiskey Rebellion was a violent protest due to a tax being put on whiskey. I think this was important because it was the first major test toward the government. -
Alien and Sedation Acts
The Alien and Sedation Acts were acts that allowed the government to deport and imprison foreign citizens, it also took away things like freedom of speech and the press. I think that this was important because these acts violated some of the amendments.
