    Mayflower Compact
    SourceThe Mayflower Compact, signed by 41 English colonists on the Mayflower, is an agreement composed by new settlers. I think the Mayflower Compact represents freedom because the Pilgrims moved to the New Land, or the United States, to practice whatever religion they wanted to be; in England, they were not free to be another religion other than protestant. It is a social contract as well because it's an agreement to follow the law.

    Patrick Henry's Speech to the Virginia Convention
    SourcePatrick Henry's speech to the Virginia Convention at St. John's Church was called "Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death!" The speech was proposed to organize a volunteer company of cavalry or infantry in every Virginia County. Freedom is the characteristic that fits this event the best because Patrcik Henry is devoted to have either liberty, or death. He is saying that he prefers to be dead than suffering alive.

    Thomas Paine's "Common Sense"
    SourceThe pamphlet "Common Sense" was the first work to publicly ask for independence from Great Britain. "Common Sense" played a role in transforming a colonial quarrel into the American Revolution. The book represents Global Standing because of what Paine wrote that changed the colonists' argument which said that Europe is the parent country of America, the new world which has been the asylum for the lovers of civil and religious liberty from every part of Europe. This shows how Paine views the US.

The Declaration of Independence represents freedom because it was written by Jefferson to gain independence, or freedom from the control of others.

Close to 40% of the American citizens now, have ancestors who went through Ellis Island. The opening of Ellis Island was The American Dream because all the immigrants that went through this process had a dream to be free and start a new life in another country.

    SourcePlessy got in a white car and was arrested because he was black. Plessy's lawyer argued that the Separate Car Act broke the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendments to the Constitution. This event represents equality and equity because Plessy was colored and he got arrested for going in a "white" car, which is racism.

This event was a famous American legal case in which a substitute teacher, John Scopes, was accused of violating the Butler Act. This event represents the separation of church and state because the government is interfering with religion and believes.

    Franklin D. Roosevelt's "Four Freedoms" Speech
    SourceIn Roosevelts "Four Freedoms" speech, he stated that what they needed at that moment was that their actions should be devoted to meeting the foreign danger. The four freedoms that Franklin referred to in his speech were the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom to worship God in his own way, the freedom from want, and the freedom from fear. The speech symbolizes freedom because it talks about all the four freedoms that we should have, or the rights given to each American citizen.

The attack on Pearl Harbor represents patriotism because, unfortunately, big tragedies bring people together, which happened with this event.

It ended legal segregation, or the act to set apart people such as blacks and whites, in public schools. This event represents equality and equity because it is decided that all people are equal no matter their race or color.

    SourceLittle Rock Nine was when nine African-American students went to Little Rock Central High School leading to a nationwide crisis when the governor of Arkansas called out the Arkansas National Guard to prevent these students from entering the school. In the fall of 1957, a plan to desegregate so students would be allowed to change from any school where races was in the minority started. Little Rock Nine is equality and equity because black and white students were separated, until the plan began.
  • 9/11

    9/11
    SourceSeptember 11th of 2001, a date that will never be forgotten, when Al Qaeda terrorist group crashed two planes into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, leading to many tragic deaths such as people jumping of the buildings, which at the time were the tallest buildings in the world. On September 11, 2011, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum opened to honor all the victims of 9/11. 9/11 is a symbol of patriotism because this immense tragedy brought many people together.
