    Hernan Cortes
    In 1485 Cortes defeated the Aztec empire and claimed Mexico for Spain. He first set sail sail to the new world at the age of 19, later joined an expedition to Cuba. In 1518 he set off to explore Mexico, there he strategically aligned some native people against others to overthrow them he helped Spain's position in the 1500s. He worked In 1511 Cortes worked in the civil government and served as the Mayor of Santiago for a time.

    Christopher Columbus
    In 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue. In 1492 Columbus left Spain in the Santa Maria, with the Pinta and the Nina along side. His first voyage Into the Alantic ocean in 1476 nearly cost him his life. He has been credited for opening up the Americas to European colonization. Columbus ship was burned, and he had to swim to the Portuguese shore, and had to make his way to Lisbon, Portugal. In 1505 he did find riches, he died May 1506. Still believing h round a shorter route to Asia.

    Alonzo Ãlvarez de piñeda
    Pineda and his crew were the fist Europeans to see the coast. He sailed from Jamica into the Gulf of Mexico. Him and his soldiers decided to start a corny there, he sent ships back to Jamica , when they returned they saw that the settlers have been killed in Indian attacks. In 1527 he led a voyage to the Gulf of Mexico. Pineda left Jamica in 1519 to set sail along the coastal line of the Gulf.Texas land he called "Amichel" his map is the first known document of Texas history.

    Panfilo de narvaez
    Panfilo granted the land of Florida by the emperor Charles V. In 1526.. He led an expedition there with 250-300 men, including Cabeza de vaca. A series of hurricanes and fights with native Americans killed many of his crew, and the pilot of the ship sailed to Mexico without the men. The men hastily made 5 makeshift rafts on which they Saled west, hoping to reach a Spanish Settlement in Mexico.

    Ãlvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca
    vaca reached Tampa bay Florida in 1528. He survived shipwrek, Vaca carved out roles as a trader and a healer in the community. in 1532 he and the 3 surviving members of his original party set out for Mexico, where they hoed to connect to the Spanish empire. He also lived with karankawa. His early career was in the military in 1527. He landed in Tampa Bay, Florida with his large army of soldiers and settlers. They built boats, and sailed along the coasts of Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.

    Francisco Vasquez de Coronado
    Coronado traveled to Spain in 1535, he rose within the colonial government, receiving an appointment to the appointment to the governorship of Nueva Galicia. He was selected by viceroy to lead a mission to further explore these claims. He set out 300 Spanish soldiers and roughly 1,000 Indians. They continued there search through what is now Texas.

    In 1598 he crossed the Rio Grande at El Paso. He led an expedition west to the Colorado River and south to the Gulf of California, but he didn't find golf. He later stood trial for his crimes while governor found guilty of cruelty, immorality and false reporting, he was exiled from the colony, and deprived of his titles, but not restoration to office.
