I grew up in Sri Lanka and at the age of 16 in high school, I used the computer to learn keyboarding. -
1993
During my undergraduate years, I learned the Disk Operating System (DOS) and to navigate the internet. I had difficulty working with DOS as we were required to memorize all the commands to communicate with the computer. However, I worked hard and managed to complete my computer class successfully. -
1997
I started working at the Official Language Department in Sri Lanka as an Apprentice Translator. Sri Lanka is a multinational country and apart from my mother tongue (Sinhala) and English (official language of Sri Lanka), I had to learn other languages as well. I used the language lab that was equipped with microphones, headsets, projectors, desktop PCs, sound controls, floppy disks, printers, etc. to improve my linguistic skills. -
1998
My family bought our first desktop computer and a black-white printer. I was able to sharpen my keyboarding and Word Processing skills. -
1999
I bought my first cell phone. It was a flip phone and I used it only for calling. It did not have texting, camera, or any other features that modern phones have. -
2005
I bought a laptop, an iPad, and a color printer. I learned Microsoft Windows and started listening to online audio books and reading books online. -
2010
I enrolled in college classes to learn office skills and was able to improve my knowledge in Microsoft Office, web designing, and advanced graphic designing. -
2021
I started developing curriculum for the students with learning disabilities. I created lessons in Blackboard LMS and used the following tools: Adobe creative cloud, Audacity audio editing tool, Wix website builder, Animoto, Kahoot, etc. -
2015
I started my career as an adjunct instructor where I used computers, and other technological devices such as digital calculators, projectors, microphones, etc. to conduct the classes. This was the first time I used Blackboard Learning Management System with limited access to monitor students’ grades.

2018
I enrolled in the Instructional design certificate at UCF to learn the theories and technology involved in education and developing effective instructional materials for students. From this program, I learned photoshop, web designing, and other tools used in education. -
2022
I enrolled in online classes for the Instructional Design and Technology, MA at UCF to further my knowledge in instructional design and educational technology. I completed my internship at an organization that creates lessons for students to improve mental health through activities that use advanced technology such as educational augmented reality & virtual reality games, video lessons, audio libraries with artificial intelligence, and video games.
