Internet Introduced in public schools
The Internet was brought into public schools for the first time. The internet was originally born on January 1st, 1983. It took over 11 years for it to be implemented in the school system. -
Computers in the classroom
By this time not only was the internet introduced in the classroom, but each classroom had at least one PC (portable computer) as part of the classroom. This was for instructional delivery purposes. But not all teachers had their own PC yet. -
1:1 Student to Computer Ratio
Student had a 1:1 ratio between them and the computers. Normally this would be in a computer lab. It wasn't until the early 2010s that schools truly had a more reliable method of 1:1 computers in the classroom. -
Television and VCR
Schools had different forms of technology implemented in the classroom. This form of technology was no different, it was the television and vcr cart combo. With this student could watch movies on holidays or near the end of the school year or educational programs that related with what they had been learning. Of course, this was still relevant during the time before streaming became a thing. -
Integration of technology in the classroom
It wasn't until the early 2000s that technology inside the classroom was being properly integrated. Before it used to be more of an assistant tool but now it has started to develop and even in today's modern age, it has developed much further than what we could have ever anticipated. It also has yet much more implications in the field of education that we have not seen yet. -
Oregon Trail
A game that while originally was introduced in 1971. It had a strong impact on schools and more importantly on students. It taught them about the westward expansion. The reason it is on the timeline is because even though it was introduced in 1971 it was still seen in classrooms all the way up until the early 2000's. I played a bit of it and never found it interesting until now. -
Ipad in classrooms
It wasn't until the iPad was implemented inside the classroom this gave students a true 1:1 feeling inside the classroom. It did not rely on just having one area of the school with all the technology. -
The Chromebook
Only two years after the iPad was introduced in the classroom. There was a new technological sensation introduced in the classroom that not even the iPad could compete with. That was the Chromebook, a laptop that was more integrated with the classroom and more efficient in delivering instructions to students. Within a few years, it passed over the iPad in terms of sales. This quickly started to replace iPads inside the classroom. -

COVID laptops
