    The Crusades caused the Europeans to question things that always been held as true. The gains of the crusades were that Europeans were introduced to new ideas and new things from Asia like food, spices, and instruments like the compass. This was important in history because this is how we got new things like the compass, which many people still use today.

    The black death also known as the plague was a disease that wiped out 1/3 of a population. In Europe the disease was contracted from fleas that were on black rats. This was important in history because this brought the Middle Ages to an end.

    He was a student of Prince Henry's School. He believed that he could reach India by sailing aroound the tip of Africa. In1487, he led an expedition to reach India but only made it to South Africa. This is important because he helped subside trade routes.

    He originally came from Italy, he studied navigation, he knew that Europeans needed goods from Asia so he came up with an idea to sail West and North East. The problem was to convince people to support his ideas. He got royal help. He asked the King and Queen for help and they gave him 3 ships, he never set foot on modern day U.S. This was important because it helped the extermination of natives.

    Vasco da Gama Voyage
    He was a portugueseexplorer who was determined to complete what diaz was determined to complete what Diaz didn't. In 1497, da Gama was the first European to reach India by boat. He successfully rounded rounded the tip of South Africa. This revolutionizes the fact that people didn't have to walk to places anymore, they could use a boat.

    Matin Luther became a monk and began to question the teachings of the church. He posted 95 theses on the door of the Wittenburg Church. This marked the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. This is important in history becasue this was the start of Reforming the Catholic Church.

    King Henry 1st Marriage
    King Henry's first marriage was to Catherine of Aragon. That was an arranged marriage. Every time she got pregnant, she had a girl, not a boy. Henry needed a boy to pass the thrown to when he dies. Girls were considered weak, therefore he needed a boy. This was important in history because this was when Henry removed England from the Catholic Church and he set up the Anglican Church. He removed England from the Catholic Church because he wanted to dovorce Catherines fault for only having girls.

    Juan Ponce de Leon was the first conquistador to explore the modern-day U.S. He was a spanish explorer and he led the first European expedition to Florida. This was important because it helped establish colonization.

    Cortes Defeat of Aztecs
    In 1518, cortez went to Mexico to try to find gold. He got what he had wanted but he brought diseases back with him. He brought the diseases to the Aztecs which destroyed the entire empire. This was important because he took advantage of the Aztecs for gold and then killed a bunch of people because of the disease.

    In 1532, the Anglican Church was established. It was formed by King Henry. It was formed by King Henry. He formed the Church in order to be able to divorce his wife. The pope who was in control of the Catholic Church, wouldn't lethim divorce so he removed England from it. So he was in control o the colony and the church. This is important to history because this establishment made it possible to divorce.

    In 1607, King James I gave 144 men permission to start a colony in Virginia. It was named Jamestown in honor of him. However, it doesn't go so well. The land is very swampy and not good. In 1608, 200 more colonists arrive and by 1609 only 53 people remain. This is important because this was England first successful colony.

    Massachusetts exported many different goods like fish, pumpkin, livestock, ships, etc. Some colonists were involved in whaling. Governor John Winthrop founded Massachusetts. This was important because they were sending goods to other people. (They were helpful.)

    In 1663, Carolina colony was established. In 1729 they split into North and South Carolina. They sold Native Americans to the Carribbean as slaves. This was important because this was how the whole slaves things came about.

    In 1664, King Charles from England claimed New Netherlands as his own. He named it for his brother, Duke of York. In 1702, New Jersey split from New York. This was important because New York (Duke of York, originally.) got its name by King Charles, naming it after his brother.

    The French and Indian war was fought between France and England. They both wanted control over the Ohio River Valley. The Ohio River Valley was already claimed by Indian Tribes and none were willing to give the land. This was important because it brought up a great military.

    The Proclamtion Act in 1763 was when England was broke. They didn't want anymore wars since it was costing them a lot of money. Also colonists couln't go past Ohio River Valley. This is important because if it didn't exist, then the colonists would not have done what they did.

    Parliament had placed a tax on sugar. The colonists weren't happy about that since they didn't get any representation in Parliament. James Otis said "No taxation, without representation" This was important because James Otis was right and the colonists then saw that.

    The Stamp Act in 1765 was placed by Parliament. They placed a tax pon prijnted material. It had been the first direct tax on the coloinsts. They started to boycott aqnd it made a huge impact on British Economy. It was then repealed in 1766. This was important because it showed that they could work together.

    The Boston Tea Party was the tax pon tea in 1773. It required the colonists to only purchase British East India Company Tea and they taxed it. On December 16, 1773 the Sons of Liberty dumped the tea in the Boston Harbor. It is important because this was an act on showing that they weren't going to do as they were told.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    On Apeil18, 1775, British troops began to Boston Concord. Concord ahd a militia supply depot and the British wanted to take it before the colonists did. The next morning the British arrive and kill 8 colonists. Ths was the first ever battle of American Revolution. This was a very important event in history because this is what started it all.

    The Olive Branch Petition in 1775 was when the Continental Congress adopts the Olive Branch Petition written by John DIckinson. It appeals directly to King George and express hope for recognition. This was importnat in history because it told King George what they wanted.

    Treaty of Paris tok place in 1783. It negociated between the USA and Great Britain ended the Revolutionary War and recongnized American Independence. This was important because it ended the war and because of this the U.S. was free.

    The Louisiana Purchase was the buying of the Louisiana Territory by the United States from France in 1803. President Jefferson was the one who bought the Louisiana Purchase. This was importnat becasue this was how Louisiana was purchased.

    The Lewis and Clark Expedition was also known as the Corps of Discovery. This was the first American expedition to cross what is now the western portion of the United States. This was important because we found more land. We also discovered what was on the land that we bought. (We learned about the Natives on this expedition too.)

    The Trail of Tears was when the Cherokee nation was forced to give up their land east of the Mississippi River and to go to Oklahoma. The Cherokee people called this journey "The Trail of Tears" because of how devastating it was. This was important because this was when 1,000s of Indians were Marched to death.

    The Donner Party was a group of American Pioneers who set out for California for Gold. They tried to find an easier way but got stuck in the winter. Many of the people resorted to cannibalism to survive. This was important because it was kind of like informing people not to take the route that the Donner Party took.

    The California Gold Rush began on January 24, 1848, when gold was discovered by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California. They were bad at keeping secrets so everyone found out and was coming to California for Gold. This was important becasue this was an ecnomic turning point.

    The Compromise of 1850 was the balance of free and slaves states. It was considered very important to both the North and South to keep the number of free and slave states the sames. The reason for this compromise was if one region had more slaves than the other, then the Senate would be controlled by the larger one. This was important because it helped reconstruct peace and end Civil War.
  • Fugitive Slave Law

    All of the citizens were required to help runaway slaves.Aiding a fugitvie would result in something bad, such as a $1,000 fine and/or 6 months in jail. Judges would recieve $10 for each "fugitive slave that was returned" and only $5 if they allowed them to stay in the North. So naturally they would go the $10 solution. This was important in history because it was one of the frst Civil Rights cases.
  • Dred Scott

    Dred Scott
    Dred Scott was a slave of a military doctor who lived in Missouri. While he was in Wisconsin (a free state) the doctor died. He now said that he was free. Then the docotrs family comes to collect their inheritance, which included Dred. Dred sues for his freedom. The Supreme Court rules in favor that slaves were property. This was important in history because this was also one of the first Civil Rights cases.
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    Battle of Vicksburg
    The Battle of Vicksburg happened in Mississippi of July. It was General Grant versus General Pembrook. It was king of like the Siege of Vicksburg. Seige meant to cut the supply coming in and going out of a city. This was important because it was a major victory for the Union. (General Grant was a Union.)

    Battle of Gettysburg
    The Battle of Gettysburg happened in Pennsylvania, July 1st through the 3rd. General Robert E. Lee led an offesive attack. On the 2nd day, General Chamberlain had the hill secured. On the 3rd day, General Pickett attacked the ridge but Union forced Confederate to retreat. Union Victory. This was important in history because it was a turning point of Civil War.
