This council was the first advocacy group for children with disabilities. It was one of the largest special education advocacy groups. The purpose of the group was to ensure that children with special needs received Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). -

Elementary and Secondary Education Act
The ESEA did not make it law to educate students with disabilities, but it did give grants to state schools and institutions that put programs in place to educate students with disabilities -
Education for All Handicapped Children Act
This act made sure that all students with disabilities are educated in public schools. -
Board of Ed. of HHCD V. Rowley
This case determined a 2 part test to determine whether the FAPE is being met according to a student's IEP. -
Handicapped Children''s Disabilities Act
This act signed by Ronald Regan was a law that gave parents more of a voice in the development of their child's IEP. -

No Child Left Behind Act
Signed by George W. Bush stated that all students should be proficient in math and reading by 2014. Some states asked to not be a part, but all states were required to take part. -
