    Columbus set sail on August 3, 1492 in search for a new route to Asia/ India. Although he did not find a new route, he found a new world; North America. Because of this, Columbus is very important to history, and starting Spanish exploration in America.

    Cortes Voyage
    Cortes set sail from Cuba to Mexico in 1519. He conquered Mexico for the Spanish, and then conquered the Indian tribe called the Aztecs. He also brought 6 million dollars worth of gold back to Spain. This is important because it sparked the interest of people to explore North and South America.

    Pineda's Voyage
    Pineda set sail from Jamaica to Flordia in 1519. Due to this, he was the first to map the Gulf of Mexico. This is important because it led to others exploring land on the Gulf Coast.

    The leader of DeVaca's voyage was actually Narvez. The purpose of the expedition was to find gold in Florida.

    DeVaca Discovers Texas

    DeVaca discovered Texas by crash landing into Galveston Island. The Karankawas found them and took them in for about 4 years. DeVaca and his men were grateful and helped nurse the Indians back to health.

    The purpose of Fray Marcos and Esteban's journey was to study the land to the north and evaluate. During the journey, Esteban was killed by a villager for demanding their woman and food. Fray Marcos, however, did live and reported that the golden city did exist.

    Moscoso' Expedition

    Moscoso' Expedition
    The leader of Moscoso' expedition was DeSoto. During the expedition, he died near the Mississippi River due to a fever. Moscoso continued the expedition, and when he returned, reported do not go Texas because it offers nothing.

    Coronado's Expedition

    On Coronado's expedition, he searched for the 7 Cities of Gold and Quivera. During this expedition, Coronado found an Indian, which he called the Turk, that soon became his guide. But because Coronado didn't find what he was expecting, he made the Turk dig his own grave and strangles him. Later in the expedition, Coronado discovered both the Palo Duro and Grand Canyon. His expedition was important because he reported to not go to Texas, which resulted in no expeditions for another 150 years.
