Columbus Discovers New World
Columbus was looking for a route to India to find riches for Spain, instead he landed in a land that we now call the Bahamas. This discovery changed history because it started exploration in the Americas. This part of the world was unknown before this discovery. -

Cortes' Voyage
Cortes conquered what is now Mexico. Some of his discoveries were conquering the Aztec Empire and their leader Montezuma. He also brought back 99 tons Gold for the Spanish Empire. His dicovery led to exploration in the Americas. -

Pineda was the first to map the Gulf Coast from Florida to Texas. His map of the coast led to Texas exploration. -

DeVaca's Discovery
DeVaca sdiscovered Texas when he shipwrecked on a island which we now know as Galveston. DeVaca was in Galveston for 4 years living with the Karankawa indians! He then escaped and found in California 8 years later. DeVaca told of 7 cities of gold in Texas. -

DeVaca's Voyage
DeVaca's goal was to help Narvaez, his leader, look for gold. Some of his discoveries were he was the first to explore Texas. he also was the first to write about the indians. The purpose of the expedition was to explore the area Pineda mapped. -

Fray Marcos and Esteban
Marcos and Esteban were sent to Texas the 7 cities of gold DeVaca speaks of. Unfortanutely there was no such thing. For some unknown reason, Marcos reported there was a city of gold bigger then Mexico City! This was also not true. -

Moscoso's Voyage
On this expedition DeSoto was the real leader, but he died from disease. That's when Moscoso, took over. His purpose was to explore the map Pineda explored. They found nothing but indian tribes. He then reported back that there was no significance in America. -

Conado's Voyage
Coronado was looking the big city Marcos said there was, but he ended up in the village of a Zuni tribe. Then, a man we call Turk, led Coronado to Quivera, where he found another indian village. He then reported back there was no significance of exploring Texas because there was nothing to explore.
