  • British settlers arrived at the Cape and seetled on the East Coast

  • The Anglo-Zulu war break out, the Zulus managed to defeat the British

  • Abglo-Boer war started. a bloody war the British army won in 1902

  • Saw the foundation of an independent South Africa

  • The African National Congress (ANC) was founded

  • The nationalist party representing the Boers/Afrikaaners won the elections, and began the introduction of apartheid

  • the government passed the Race Registration Law.

  • Sexual relations between whites and other races were punished with prison.

  • 69 people were killed by the Police in the Sharpeville anti-pass demonstration

  • the ANC was banned by the government

  • The Union og South Africa left the Commonwealt and became a republic
